McDonald’s : Giving Back to Nola

Food for Thought

By now, you’ve probably seen NOMB shout our delight with the announcement of Greater New Orleans McDonald’s $2.99 Happy Meals. You might have seen us talk about how excited our children are at the availability of  Yoplait Go-GURT Low Fat Strawberry Yogurt as a choice in their Happy Meal. You likely know that now, all Chicken McNuggets are made with 100% white meat chicken and include no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and the hamburgers are made with a 100% beef patty with no fillers additives, or preservatives. You’ve heard us declare our joy with the options McDonald’s provides in their $2.99 Happy Meals, but do you know what we love just as much?

Fun for a Cause

New Orleans Moms Blog has opportunities around every corner to give back to the community. We love getting together with moms from all over Greater New Orleans and being able to leverage those opportunities to provide assistance to those in need is double-awesome!  By working with New Orleans Moms Blog to donate money and items, you are providing hope to those who need it most. Over the last few years, NOMB has utilized events like Mom’s Night Out and Kendra Scott Spring Collection Launch Party to collect donations and shopping proceeds to support RMHC-SLA. The shopping event alone raised over $500 along with a car-load of donations.

Three Charities in One

One of our favorite charities to support—and also McDonald’s charity of choice—is Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern Louisiana (RMHC-SLA). We are so lucky to have a Ronald McDonald House right here in New Orleans. The house is a stunning 15-bedroom property located at 4403 Canal Street and gives respite to approximately 85 families every month. These families have children staying in area hospitals and allows them to stay close to their babies at little or no cost. Having a child sick enough to require hospitalization is unimaginable, but Ronald McDonald House eliminates the added stress of hotels and expense to parents and caregivers.

Ronald McDonald House Charities also serves New Orleans with the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile which provides free immunizations for children. Check out  GNOShots4Kids for details on this incredible program, including schedules, important tips and eligibility. My family used this program when we first moved to New Orleans. It was the only way I could ensure my children stayed up-to-date on their vaccines, at no cost to me, during a difficult time.

McDonald’s doesn’t just support young children, but even your “babies” going off to college. Did you know that with the help of McDonald’s owner/operators in GNO, RMHC-SLA awarded FORTY $1,000 scholarships to students in the greater New Orleans area last year?

So how can you help?

  • Treat your family by purchasing a $2.99 Happy Meal at any GNO location. For every Happy Meal sold, a donation is made to Ronald McDonald House Charities.
  • Participate in New Orleans Moms Blog events that collect for Ronald McDonalds House Charities.
  • Donate your loose change at McDonald’s. The kids will love putting coins into the brightly colored receptacles.
  • Visit their Website at RMHC-SLA to make a donation online.
  • Shop Amazon Smile and Choose RMHC-SLA as your Charity.

Has your family been helped by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Louisiana? Let us know how in the comments!
