2020 Guide to Lenten Fish Fries in New Orleans

Lent is almost here! Fridays are synonymous with Fish Fries! It’s a great time of year to support your community AND feed your family without having to heat up your kitchen! Stop by one of these local churches and charities to pick up your Friday dinner at a local fish fry!

Some of these offer drive thru service and almost all offer take out. Beyond fried fish, there is a great variety in some menus. Some churches even offer both lunch and dinner times! Also, most of them take cash only, so don’t forget to stop at the ATM.

New Orleans

St. Gabriel the Archangel (4700 Pineda St.) –Every Friday of Lent except Good Friday. 11AM -7PM. Cost is $10 and includes two peices of fish, mac and cheese, vegetables, salad, dessert and a drink.

Our Lady of the Rosary (3368 Esplanade Ave.) March 6, 13, and 20 Serving Hours: 5:30pm-8:00pm. Cost is $8 and includes fried fish, fries, green beans, and coleslaw.

St. Anthony of Padua (4640 Canal Street) – Starts 2/28 and repeats every Friday in Lent. $10 and includes Fish, french fries, vegetable, bread or gumbo, potato salad and bread.

Brother Martin High School (4401 Elysian Fields) – March 27th 4:30 – 7:30PM. Fried fish, shrimp and combination plates (served with french fries, hushpuppies, and coleslaw). Fried fish and shrimp po-boys (served with french fries). Boiled crawfish, corn and crab bisque pizza will be available for the kids.

Metairie

St. Louis King of France (1600 Lake Ave) –  3/6 and 3/13 beginning at 4:30 PM. Menu includes fried catfish platters, fried shrimp platters and combo platters. Dine in and drive through option available.

Our Lady of Divine Providence (1000 N. Starrett Rd) – Begins Friday, February 28th, starting at 5:00 PM with drive-thru ONLY. Price is $9.00 a plate and includes Fried Fish, Boiled Corn & Potatoes and Bread; Crawfish pie $4.00 each or 3 for $10.00; and, Shrimp Etouffee with rice $5.00/pint.

St. Ann Church & Shrine (4921 Meadowdale Dr) – Every Friday in Lent starting on  February 28 at 6PM. Menu items change weekly and include fried fish dinner, seafood gumbo, shrimp etouffee and pizza by the slice.

St. Matthew United Methodist Church  (6017 Camphor St) – Friday February 28th from 4:30 – 7 PM. Dinners are $9 for adults, $5 for children and include fried catfish, boiled corn & potatoes, and dessert. All proceeds go to Vacation Bible School.

St. Angela Merici (901 Beverly Garden Dr) – March 6, March 13, April 3, 2020 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. .

St. Clement of Rome  (4317 Richland Ave, Metairie) – Fridays  on 3/6, 3/13 and 3/27. 5:30 – 8 PM.

St. Benilde (1901 Division St.) – Every Friday starting 3/6 until 4/3. Adult fish plate, child fish plate, fish and shrimp combo, soft shell crab plate, grilled redfish, seafood muffuletta (Pre-Sale Only) crab and corn bisque, seafood gumbo, fish tac thai, shrimp taco, slice of cheese pizza, drinks/beer, bread pudding with blueberry sauce.

Westbank

Westwego Volunteer Fire Department (677 Avenue H, Westwego) – Friday February 28th  starting at 5PM and every Friday during Lent. Meals include fried fish, shrimp or combo, macaroni & cheese or fries, corn, salad, & dessert. Dine in or take out. Credit cards are accepted.

Visitation of Our Lady (3500 Ames Blvd, Marrero) – Ash Wednesday and every Friday during Lent except Good Friday from 5-8 PM. Menu items include everything from fried seafood po-boys and dinner plates to even lighter broiled options. Prices range from $9 – $17.

St. Cletus Catholic Church (3600 Claire Ave, Gretna) – Every Friday during Lent except Good Friday  from 5-8:00 PM. Menu items include fried fish, shrimp & oyster plates, sides, and dessert. Eat in or take out.

River Parishes

St. Rose Volunteer Fire Department (123 St. Rose Ave., St. Rose)  – Every Friday during Lent until 3/23.

St. Mark Catholic Church (10771 River Road, Ama) – Every Friday until 4/3. Fried fish plate,$10. Fried shrimp plate, $10. Half and half plate (fish & shrimp combo), $10. Shrimp stew plate, $10. Ama special plate (fish, shrimp & stew combo) $13. Child’s plate (fish or shrimp or stew) $5 *adult plates come with coleslaw, bread & choice of either fries OR potato salad **child plates come with fries drinks and a variety of desserts will be sold.

St. Bernard

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (2621 Colonial Blvd., Violet) – Every Friday in Lent. Seafood Dinners including Desserts, Green Bean Casserole, Seafood Pasta, Baked Macaroni, Potato Salad.

Northshore

Mary, Queen Of Peace (1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville) – Every Friday during Lent from 5 – 7:30 PM. Fried fish, baked fish or fried shrimp with fries and a drink.

Our Lady of the Lake (312 Lafitte St, Mandeville) – Every Friday during Lent from 5 – 8 PM. Dinners are $10 for adult and $5 for children and include either fried or baked fish with your choice of three sides and bread. The sides available are macaroni & cheese, green beans, fries, and coleslaw.

St. Anselm (306 St. Mary St, Madisonville) – Every Friday beginning 2/28 during Lent until Good Friday. Drive thru begins at 4:30PM and dine in at 5PM.

St. Peter (125 E. Nineteenth Ave, Covington) – Every Friday during Lent from 5:30 – 8 PM. Meals featuring broiled and fried catfish.

Most Holy Trinity (501 Holy Trinity Dr, Covington) – Every Friday during Lent until 4/3 drive thru 4-6PM and dine in 5-7PM. Adult Dinners are $11 and kids are $6.

Holy Ghost (600 N. Oak St, Hammond) – Mar. 6th, 13th, 27th & Apr 3rd.  Dinners are $8.

Mary is a caffeine addicted boy mom to Noah, Liam and Luke. This “stay at home” mom can typically been found cruising in her minivan, jamming to Beyonce with a Starbucks in hand on her way to carpool or after school activities. Mary has been married to her high school sweetheart since 2007. She is a founder of Delivering Hope NOLA and the Vanessa Wolff Scholarship Fund at her Alma Mater. Mary is passionate in the local preemie community and has been heavily involved with the March of Dimes since her sons Liam and Luke were born premature.

  1. St. Francis of Assisi (631 State St, NOLA) is having fish fries on March 6th and 20th from 5:30-7:30pm in the Lycee School cafeteria. Adult fish dinners are $12 and children’s fish or pizza dinners are $6. Each dinner includes a beverage and dessert.

  2. St. Catherine of Siena (400 Codifer Blvd, Metairie, LA) is having fish friends March 13, 20, 27, and April 3 from 5:30-7:00pm in the school cafeteria.

  3. St. Francis Xavier (444 Metairie Road, Metairie) Friday’s, March 6 & March 20, 5:30-8:30pm. The meal includes: fried fish, potatoes, salad and bread. Cost: Adult $10, Child $6, Seafood Gumbo $6 and Cheese Pizza for $1. (Crawfish Boil: Friday, Mar. 27)
