Disclosure :: A few weeks ago, some of our team members traveled to The Woodlands Resort, just north of Houston, Texas, for the City Moms Blog Network Sister Site Conference. The Woodlands Resort was a fabulous host to all of us, and we gladly agreed to facilitate this honest review AND giveaway in exchange. We are so thrilled that one of you will WIN a 2 night Bed & Breakfast Package.
So You Wanna Get Away From New Orleans?
As amazing as New Orleans is, sometimes you just need to get away. Even if the kids join you, there is something so refreshing and therapeutic about a change of scenery. Although it’s also EXTREMELY nice to get away sans kids as well. When we traveled to The Woodlands Resort in late September, we were actually able to experience the resort from both perspectives, as our co-founder, Ashley, had her three kids in tow.
So how long is the drive? Ashley’s family pulled out of her driveway around 6:30am on a Friday morning in an attempt to beat the crazy Houston traffic. With two stops that were admittedly longer than usual with a nursing baby and two toddlers, the drive took about 6.5 hours. Keep in mind that the resort is NORTH of Houston, so once you get to Houston you still need to circle the city and head north for a bit. Overall, it was a relatively easy drive and totally doable for a weekend away from New Orleans. Karen chose to fly, which of course is incredibly easy if you want to go that route.
What can you do at the The Woodlands Resort? Well, we spent much of our time in the conference area learning how to make New Orleans Moms Blog the best resource it can be for New Orleans families. Meanwhile, Ashley’s family enjoyed the gorgeous pool, lazy river and fun extras like poolside {virgin} daiquiris. The kids literally could not stop talking about the lazy river and even skipped naps BOTH days in order to enjoy the water. There’s also a splash pad, which is a fun feature. While we were there, we also saw plenty of people enjoying golf, and we did venture out one evening to a nearby outdoor mall that was packed with amazing stores. On another day, Ashley’s family enjoyed lunch at a nearby pizza restaurant. We ate several meals on the property as well, and we enjoyed those, too. The desserts and breakfast were particularly memorable. Apparently there’s a spa, tennis courts and also hiking … but we were only there 48 hours and didn’t have a chance to explore all of that!
So how are the rooms? The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the rooms we were treated to had been updated, so the property felt refreshed and clean. Ashley’s family brought a portable crib for the child who needed it, and she was able to comfortably fit her family of five in two adjoining rooms. Truthfully, though, this is not the place to go if you want to just sit in your hotel room. This is a family-friendly resort that you’ll want to enjoy and explore. The rooms are completely adequete and comfortable, as are the bathrooms, but you’ll want to be out and about while you’re there to enjoy the fun around the resort!
