Show Me Your Wordle :: Why You Should Hop on the Wordle Bandwagon

If you haven’t seen an influx of gray/black, yellow and green squares filling your Facebook feed, I’d be surprised. Wordle has taken over (for me, anyway), and it’s no wonder. I love this new game!

What is Wordle?

Basically, you have six chances to guess a five-letter word. After each guess, the letters will change to gray, yellow, or green. Gray means the letter is not in the word. Yellow means the letter is in the word, but it’s in a different spot. Green means the letter is in the word and in the correct spot. I hope I didn’t make it sound complicated, because it’s really simple.

When I first started playing, a friend of mine pointed out Wordle’s origin story, which I love almost as much as I love the game. Josh Wardle created this simple game for his puzzle-loving partner, and what started out as an act of love quickly spread to a viral sensation.

I came across Wordle because Penguin Press advertised it as the “ultimate book lover’s game” – hey, I love books and games! As I started sharing my Wordle results on Facebook, more of my friends (English teachers and non-teachers alike) started joining in.

Here’s why I love it…

It’s like a crossword puzzle without the clues.

It’s a guessing game for word lovers.

Easy enough so anyone can play.

It’s simple in design.

I’m not inundated by ads.

I can share my results and see my friends’ results, too!

And, most importantly, it’s addictive but not a time suck. You’re limited to one play per day, and it doesn’t take that long to guess the Wordle.

If you haven’t played Wordle yet, you need to, and if you’re already a regular player…show me your Wordle!
