Don’t Miss Fête Française 2022! New Orleans’ Premier French Festival
Fête Française is New Orleans’ Premier French Festival and takes place on General Pershing at Magazine Street. The Francophone culture is alive and well, not just locally, but also around the world, and Fête Française celebrates the French culture with a FREE, family-friendly street festival in New Orleans on March 26th from 11 am to 5 pm. The annual festival is hosted by Ecole Bilingue, a French Immersion school uptown near Napoleon and Magazine Streets.
Fête always brings a high quality set of local and regional bands for their main stage, with this year being no different. Fête performers for 2022 include Preservation Brass, Sweet Crude, Sunpie and the Louisiana Sunspots, and Young Fellaz Brass Band.
If it’s not the music that brings attendees back year after year, it’s the selection of local restaurants and delicious delicacies that draw foodies and families alike. This year, N7, St. James Cheese Company, Elysian Bar, Cafe Degas, Nirvana, Rimon and Kolache Kitchen are serving up food, along with EB’s own in-house chef serving up French onion soup, a crêpe station, the EB pâtisserie (a massive pastry selection!) and épicerie (that means food market). There’s also a not-so-secret-secret amongst the local French community that some of the best moules-frites (mussels and fries) one can find in New Orleans can only be found at EB’s Fête, under the “Les Deux Papas” tent. Les Deux Papas is a team of two former EB dads who have helmed the tent since the festival’s early days before Katrina.
Attendees can imbibe themselves at one of the multiple thirst stations – Urban South’s Beer Garden, Bacchanal’s Rosé Room (in air conditioning!), and the festival’s signature champagne and Lillet drink – Joie de Vivre – on a delightful Spring day. It’s also pretty convenient to find the raffle area and silent auction so close to the bar.
The festival also boasts a number of local culture booths and vendors in the marketplace, and numerous games and children’s activity areas, including an obstacle course, gyroscope, bounce houses, inflatable sports, a rock climbing wall, carnival games and crafts. New this year is the “Toddler Town” which consists of miniature play houses and slides for the younger set.
