Aid for Louisiana Tornado Victims :: How to Help

Here at New Orleans Moms Blog, we’ve been searching for ways we can help those affected by the tornadoes. We’ve found some great resources so far and will continue to update this list as we encounter more opportunities to help.

Please feel free to add more aid information in the comments and we’ll be sure to include them in future revisions.

Donations {Food, Money & Time}

Second Harvest Food Bank is accepting monetary donations, food and volunteers. Food donations can be dropped off at their New Orleans warehouse at 700 Edwards Ave in Harahan, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Please find the list of most needed items here.

The American Red Cross has a donation page specifically set up for Southern Storms and Tornadoes. Monetary donations can be made here. In the drop-down, choose “Southern Storms and Tornadoes.”

Greater New Orleans Foundation has organized relief efforts in conjunction with the Salvation Army New Orleans, including acceptance of monetary donations.  Tromone Shorty (Troy Andrews) has just announced he’ll match any monetary donations up to $50K now through Sunday night!

Gardner Realtors are collecting specific items for pets and people in their Gardner Love Anything Drive. Items will be collected at any Gardner Realty location and will be distributed with the non-profit pur[SHOE]ing joy on Valentines Day at their New Orleans East location from 10am-3pm.

Counseling Services

Catholic Charities staff provides counseling and case management services in the communities affected by the tornado. Monetary donations can be made here.

Shelter

The city has set up a temporary shelter at Joe W. Brown Recreation Center 5601 Read Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70127. Food, water and cleaning supplies are needed for distribution and can be donated here.

Have you stepped forward to help the tornado victims? Please tell us how in the comments.
