We’re Not Here For Jazz Fest

If you are looking for things to do in New Orleans with kids, Jazz Fest can indeed be a family-friendly event to consider (it happens in late April and early May annually and features, some of the world’s best live music, the most delicious food and is considered a family-friendly event if you would like it to be. Of course, we won’t judge you if you’d rather ditch the kids and leave them with a sitter! Regardless of whether you are traveling to New Orleans with children or live in the area full-time, New Orleans Mom hopes to make your time in the city joyful and carefree!

We’re Not Here For Jazz Fest

Every year 400,000+ people converge on the fields of the fair grounds to attend Jazz Fest. It’s two glorious weekends of your regular New Orleans life celebration ceremonies: happy people, drinks, hopefully sun, and music. Oh, the music! My marriage anniversary falls on April 18. This conveniently enables the hubs and I to “Have to go to New Orleans for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary.” When, you ask? The first weekend of Jazz Fest, of course.

But as for me and mine, we don’t go to Jazz Fest, per se.

Actually, we’re not the only ones who don’t attend. Our writer, Pam, is open about her dislike for it. I admit, it’s not for everyone. It’s not that I necessarily dislike Jazz Fest; I stay in the city that weekend, but we choose to attend other music venues.

Usually we stay in town for the first weekend of Jazz Fest. That weekend is our favorite because of the annual “Trombone Shorty Treme Threauxdown.” This event is at the Saenger Theatre and includes a plethora of surprise guests, which last year, ranged from Dumpstaphunk, to Ivan Neville, to Chad Smith (drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers,) to Joe Jonas (yes, really.)

It’s no secret Jazz Fest not only packs the fair grounds those weekends with people, but Jazz Fest also packs the city with music at every corner possible.

There are musicians popping up all over town, at all hours of the night. If you’re looking for more music after the fest, I can assure you won’t be disappointed hanging out at Frenchman Street.

New Orleans is amazing like that; you never know who is going to pop in and jam at any given point.

If you do attend, don’t forget about the amazing after shows throughout the city you don’t want to miss.

But if you’re looking for us at Jazz Fest, we won’t be there.
