Dinner Saint: NOLA Comfort Food Delivered to Your Door

It’s Monday afternoon. You weren’t able to go to the grocery over the weekend between the kids’ ball games, birthday parties, and haircuts. Meal planning had to wait. Tonight’s dinner options include frozen pizza or Chick-fil-A. Again. Sound all too familiar? Hey, I’m not judging! As a working mother of two, I get it. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. You could take advantage of a meal delivery subscription service. Enter Dinner Saint.

I had the opportunity to try Dinner Saint last week, and I’m so glad I did! What sets Dinner Saint apart from other meal services is that the meal options consist of crowd-pleasing,Kid Friendly Meals Delivered in New Orleans New Orleans comfort foods. These are meals that my husband, six-year-old, eight-year-old, and I all enjoy. My husband and I could spend hours of our already limited time cooking, or we could let Dinner Saint save us once a week. At $12/serving, the choice was simple. Mondays are hectic enough; why not let Dinner Saint take something off my plate — by putting dinner on my plate?

My family opted to try the three main dishes that Dinner Saint offers: red beans and rice, chicken and Andouille gumbo, and yakamein. Although these local favorites can traditionally be heavy on spice, Dinner Saint’s dishes are packed with flavor without being overly spicy. This makes Dinner Saint meals perfect for those who might prefer less spice (like my eight-year-old) while also leaving room for additional sauces or spices to be added individually if needed (though we didn’t need to add anything).

Dinner Saint’s fully prepared meals arrive every Monday between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm, and subscriptions can easily be purchased, paused, or canceled online. Each serving is Meal Delivery in New Orleanspacked in pint or quart-size containers, which is perfect because it allows each family member to order their preferred dish. And speaking of preferences, the four of us ranked our favorites: My husband’s favorites were yakamein, followed by the chicken and Andouille gumbo, and then the red beans. I preferred red beans, yakamein, and then the gumbo. The kids both agreed their favorites were the red beans, gumbo, and yakamein. Though we had our favorites, we all agreed that we’d be perfectly content eating any of the above; there was not a single dish we disliked. The portions were generous. We had leftovers for each dish, so when you consider what it would cost for our family of four to order these same meals at a restaurant, four servings plus leftovers at $12/serving is a steal.

I enjoy cooking, so it’s not like I’d order meals for every day. However, in this particular season, between our jobs and shuffling two kids to baseball and summer camp and swimming, Dinner Saint’s meals came at the perfect time. It was a relief to know throughout the day Monday that Dinner Saint would be shouldering the burden of fixing dinner. No rushing home from work to cook before baseball practice. No need for the “What’s for dinner?” family debate. It’s all planned. It’s all there. Even better? It’s all local — a local small business cooking local favorites using local brands. All you need to do is heat and eat!
