Think about what it would be like to have your own personal hair stylist. To be perfectly coiffed in a moment’s notice – it’s my dream. Quite literally, when people play the “What would you do with the lotto jackpot” game, my response is always that I would employ a full time hair stylist and makeup artist. If I didn’t have to attempt to blow dry the back of my hair into some semblance of a style that looks in any way modernneat, I would be the happiest girl in town.
Now imagine that, right here in New Orleans, there is a place that can help make this dream a reality. No, not the one about winning millions, but the one about having someone style you in a way that is just right for any occasion. My dream came true last Friday when I got to check out the coolest new shop along Magazine Street!
When I walked into Blo Magazine, I was greeted with a glass of pink champagne and the sounds of Madonna. Seriously, is there any better way to start happy hour?! The vibe was cool, the stylists were fashionable, and the interiors read like something out of Architectural Digest. It is the perfect environment for a girl who wants to get glammed up. My blo-er (session stylist), Clare, took me back to my chair and presented me with a book where I chose one of seven different looks. Since I often find myself with no time to primp and my hair pulled back into a sloppy knot, I selected the stylishly sleek ponytail. I was hoping that, by watching Clare work her magic, I might learn a few tips about how to make my every day look a little dressier.
I was so incredibly pleased with the end result. She gave me a pony that was fun and flirty but could have easily been worn to a very formal party. She gave me a few tips on teasing my hair to give my look a little volume. I’ve tried to replicate the look and have been fairly successful. That is the measure of a great stylist – one who can leave you feeling like you can make a look work on your own.
Let’s face it, I still haven’t won the mega millions, so I can’t have a hair stylist on my payroll. But, with Blo Magazine just up the street, I can have an appointment with Clare (or any of the other blo-ers) any day of the week.
PS – For my close friends, I love to give baby shower gifts that include something for the baby and something for them. I cannot imagine a better treat as a new mom than spending just 30 minutes at Blo. It’s a short window of time and you come out feeling so great about yourself and your style!

This is such a great idea! They just opened up something similar on the Northshore. My hair is so crazy. I either have to blow-dry it curly or blow-dry it straight. When it dries on it’s own, even with products and special combs put through it, it’s just a poofy and often times, frizzy mess!
I’ve never had a blo-out done before, but I’d like to!
Not sure what my favorite part of a Blo out is. I’ve never had one!!
I’ve never had one but I would think just the time away from everything would be my fave part!
Favorite part? Getting pampered & not having to do it myself!!
the volume of my hair after one!
My favorite part is not stressing about perfect hair!
My favorite part is just relaxing and letting someone else deal with this mop!
My favorite part of getting a blow out is afterwards, when I feel super confident.
I’ve never had a blow out! But I think it would be amazing.
