It’s Berry Pickin’ Time {Where to Pick Strawberries and Blueberries In and Around New Orleans}

Spring is my absolute favorite time of year. Not only does it bring beautiful flowers, pleasant temperatures, and Easter eggs and bunnies …. it brings berries! Enjoying those juicy red south Louisiana strawberries is part of saying hello to Spring. There are so many ways to enjoy them in desserts, jams, salads, or all by themselves. Locally, there are several options for picking your own strawberries, all while making it a family affair.

Mrs. Heather’s Strawberry Farm: 31458 Hwy 43 Albany, LA 70711

This farm, located near the Ponchatoula area, has something appealing to all ages. There are endless rows of strawberry patches where you can fill your basket until it’s overflowing with juicy goodness. Mrs. Heathers has a jumping pillow, zip line, bouncing raise horses, and some fun ride on tractors for the kids to enjoy. There are several picnic areas around the property if you would like to bring your lunch or snacks. I would advise bringing rain boots, as it does tend to get muddy around the patch. Also, Mrs. Heather has yummy chocolate covered strawberries and jams for sale, as well. Always check their Facebook page or call them at 225-567-33493 to check for open picking, as weather conditions and berry conditions (ripeness) may affect hours. Open daily from 9 – 4:30PM until Mother’s Day. This is also a wonderful place for a birthday party or field trip!

Looking Ahead to Summer

Following strawberries in the Spring, come blueberries in the heat of the Summer! Blueberry picking normally begins in late May/early June and goes to July. Blueberries are a superfruit and can be used in endless ways!
