Our culture is not cancelled. This year the #essencefest has gone virtual. The Essence Festival of Culture is Unstoppable. Starting today through July 5th, you can refill your cup virtually by tuning in on www.essencestudios.com. Virtual experiences include the Wellness House, Beauty Carnival, Wealth & Power, Get Lifted Gospel Sunday Celebration and of course, the Evening Concerts!
I look forward to Essence every year. My friends travel from all over the country and it’s a reunion. Yes, just like the movie Girl’s Trip! Let me be the first to say that we’ve been doing this long before the “Flossy Posse” … OK! That weekend is such a huge celebration of blackness. Black Girl Magic is sprinkled all over of the city like diamonds, sequins and glitter. It’s the refill that we ALL need. It’s a time to celebrate each other.
Last year I visited the Wellness House and listened in on some important conversations about mental health and relationships. While I was there, I even participated in meditation, a practice that I have often used since then. Another highlight of my experience was the Beauty Carnival. No, it’s not a parade. It is the ultimate celebration of black beauty. I saw hair demonstrations, listened in on panel discussions from some of the most popular beauty influencers, learned how to step up my skincare game and even snagged some swag. I told you that this was a “party with a purpose” right? The businesswoman in me had to stop by the C-Suite and listen in on how to navigate corporate America as a Black Woman. I’m telling y’all, I put in my vacation request for this every year!
Did you know about the Mc Bride sisters and Black Girl Magic wine? Well, I found out about them at Essence. Y’all, even Michelle Obama was at Essence last year!
This year we may not be able to see each other in person, but one thing D-Nice taught us all was how to party during Quarantine! I will definitely be tuning in on Saturday, July 4th. Let me find my all white for Sunday!
