Hidden Gem in New Orleans :: Habana Outpost

Hidden Gem :: Habana Outpost

As parents raising a toddler in the French Quarter, we have our own unique set of problems (that’s a post for another day), but running out of things to do with our little one isn’t. We often ask our friends if they’d like to meet us down at Habana Outpost, and the responses are usually something like “Where?” or “Oh, I haven’t tried that place yet.” And I’m here to tell you that its a little hidden family-friendly gem.

Located on the corner of Esplanade and N. Rampart, Habana Outpost opened just over a year ago. Though it is not technically “locally” owned, there is one other location in Brooklyn and the harrowing ten-year-tale of their fight with Orleans Parish to open earns them a local badge in my book.

There is generally plenty of parking along Esplanade right near the restaurant. You can enter either through the front door or along N. Rampart straight into their courtyard. Immediately upon entering you will notice fun colors, decorations and most importantly …. the splash pad. Ah yes, the parent’s answer to a quiet cocktail. There has not been a single trip to the Outpost where we did not see a plethora of kids running and playing in their large, spacious courtyard with plenty of large-scale games, cars and subsequently, a row of parents enjoying a peaceful bite and refreshing margarita or beer.

Speaking of bites, we have yet to have a disappointing culinary experience. From the Cubans, to street corn and even down to the fries, we find it to be a fairly-priced menu with  great service.

So on your next 120 degree real-feel day, I encourage you to take a field trip and cool off supporting this hidden gem just outside the French Quarter.
