Fun and Exciting Field Trip Ideas in New Orleans

School field trip ideas

Do I dare say the end of the school year is near?

There are less than three months left in this school year and as a school admin, I know Spring time is everyone’s favorite time to plan fun and interactive field trips for their students. Here are some field trip ideas you may not have tried before or trips that may work for smaller groups of kids or homeschool groups.

  1. Loop NOLA  – Located in City Park this fun little adventure area is a great place to bring students where they can explore the outdoors, learn new skills and try some team building activities. Students will be able to try a ropes course, hike, canoe, fish and more. It is a great opportunity to bring in smaller groups like Girl Scouts as well.
  2. Mardi Gras World – Mardi Gras World is an excellent choice as it allows kids to truly learn about the history and culture of our city.  This trip is also customizable allowing you to make this a short tour or a longer tour with mask making; they can even coordinate lunch for your students.
  3. Vue Orleans – Vue Orleans is a newer venue that is fully interactive and again really engages and teaches kids and adults about New Orleans Culture. The location itself is breathtaking; but it is also a one of a kind experience. They host tours in maximum groups of 30 so it can be in conjunction with a French Quarter walking tour where you split students up in groups of 30 so they all can enjoy the immersive experience.
  4. New Orleans Glassworks – This is an awesome reward type of field trip for middle schoolers or an awesome trip for a high school or college art class.  This hands on experience can be tailored to align with your class curriculum to make learning come to life.  Students will be able to create a work of art that they can treasure for years to come. The staff is skilled in creating an educational experience for students and welcome students and educators to come in and experience glassworks, metal or printmaking.
  5. Longue Vue Gardens – The staff at Longue Vue have a multitude of tours and curriculum to customize an awesome field trip experience for your students. The grounds are breathtaking and the hands-on activities are always such fun for both kids and adults.
  6. Luv2Play – I am sure you have been to a birthday party here but did you know that they offer field trips as well.  The packages are affordable and it’s not as stressful to take a large group of small children to a place that is air conditioned and with one entrance and exit. This is a fun field trip for kids in PK-2 to have fun and get some energy out.
  7. Junction Place – I’m not sure if you knew it or not but Junction Place is an awesome field trip location. They can tailor activities to keep your students entertained. I’ve known them as an awesome birthday party and camp option but they offer field trips for schools as well!
  8. New Canal Lighthouse – If you are looking for a hands on STEM related field trip this new venue may be the one for you. There are a variety of activities that allow children to explore water conservation and exploration in a hands on experience.

These are just a few places for fun field trips but as you know there are plenty of family friendly places to check out as your kids enjoy their Spring and Summer Breaks at school.  Don’t forget to check out our Summer Camp Guide and reserve a camp for your kiddos for the Summer; it will be here before you know it!
