Junior League of New Orleans Sixth Annual Touch A Truck!
What child doesn’t dream about getting behind the wheel of a fire truck, an ambulance, a bulldozer, or a tow truck? Touch a Truck makes their dream a reality! This unique, interactive event allows families to touch and learn about how a wide variety of businesses and vehicles protect, serve, invest in, and build our community.
You’re Invited!
The Junior League of New Orleans (JLNO) invites you to its sixth annual Touch a Truck on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. inside the Pontchartrain Center.
Trucks and Treats and Mascots
This indoor event includes construction equipment, emergency vehicles, 18-wheelers and utility trucks along with a variety of kid-friendly activities and vendors. Also, for the sports fans, Gumbo, Sir Saint and Pierre the Pelican are stopping by! Food is available for purchase from the Pontchartrain Center’s concessions.
Take My Word For It
Over the years, many attendees shared their wonderful experiences, but this one sums it up the best: “I have to write to tell you how much I enjoyed taking my 3-year-old nephew to Touch a Truck … I think he would rate this as one of his top five life events so far! The sponsors’ staff members and JLNO volunteers were so kind and helpful in getting the kids in and out of the trucks.”
Giving Back To The Community
JLNO members love hosting Touch a Truck. “We look forward to this event because the excitement we see in both children and adults as they get up close and personal with vehicles of all types,” explained JLNO President Kristen Koppel. “This year, we will host our first ever Field Trip Friday which will allow seven hundred lower school children from our partner schools attend Touch a Truck for free.”
The public can help in this effort by sponsoring a group of 15 students through JLNO’s “Hard Hat Helper” program. A $75 donation allows children at JLNO partner schools to have a unique experience that they might not otherwise have.
A Mission of Service
Fundraisers like Touch a Truck further JLNO’s impact and mission, and 100% of net proceeds fund JLNO’s community projects. Last year, JLNO gave $60,000 in Community Assistance Fund Grants to 12 local organizations, volunteered over 40,000 hours, distributed 584,000 diapers to Louisiana residents through its Diaper Bank, and served 1,700 children with education programs. Recent disaster relief efforts have provided nearly 153,000 diapers, 117,000 wipes, and 48,000 feminine products.
