Canoe & Trails Adventures:  A Fun Family Adventure Is Just A Short Trip Across The Causeway

It’s no secret that summers are HOT in Louisiana. Add the humidity, and most summer days feel like you’re sitting on the sun. So, it’s hard to find outdoor activities that are not only fun but tolerable. There is the cool zoo, and a few splash pads in the area, but what happens when you exhaust those avenues? Ever heard of Canoe & Trail Adventures?

Just north of New Orleans, in Covington, Louisiana, there’s a family-owned canoe rental and tours company. Chad (the owner) and his entire team have everything you might need for a family fun day. They have canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards for rental. Rental pricing includes the boat, an appropriate number of paddles, life vests, and a waterproof dry bag. Canoe go-ers can bring their own ice chest, and there are beachy areas to stop for a quick picnic. Rentals are kid AND pet friendly and can be self-guided or you can schedule a guided tour.

I cannot recommend this company enough! The staff is easy going, professional, and fun. They ensure that you not only feel prepared for your adventure but go above and beyond to ensure the experience is fun. We had an absolute BLAST when we went, and already have reservations to go again. The Bogue Falaya River is the perfect backdrop to this canoe adventure and offers the perfect opportunity to experience Louisiana landscape at its finest. The lush trees on the river bank provide great shade, and the river is just chilly enough to cool you off.

And don’t worry, it’s highly likely that won’t see any gators. This river is much cooler than our reptilian friends prefer. What you will see are beautiful cypress trees, small, serene beaches, and lots of fellow canoers. There’s even a rope swing along the riverbank, which is a hot spot for adventurous kiddos.

Boat rentals are available from $35 – $80 per hour, dependent on size, and are available for 2-5 hours. I highly recommend packing a lunch and picnicking on the riverbank. If you have a small Bluetooth speaker, I recommend that as well. Canoe & Trail Adventures provides a waterproof bag that will keep all your electronics safe. Lastly, they also offer moonlight and twilight tours that could be a great date night, AND they have a summer camp as well.

So, what are you waiting for?! Head on over to Chimes in Covington (Canoe & Trail Adventures boat launch is just behind the restaurant) and give this adventure a try! You won’t regret it. While reservations are not required, they are highly recommended. All weather related delays and cancellations are fully refundable or provided credit for future adventures.
