How to Avoid Summer Boredom

School is out and summer is HERE! Ahh the excitement that the carefree days and nights hold is contagious. The nights are over of packing school lunches and making sure uniforms are clean and laid out. I’m beyond ecstatic to turn off that alarm and look forward to long summer days!

But you know who isn’t excited about the spontaneous weeks ahead? My 2 kids. They are already clawing at the walls and complaining of boredom. So here are a few ideas that I’ll be implementing in our household to keep boredom by the wayside and to keep my sanity in check.Summer Boredom_

Summer Reading: I know, I know. This may not sound like a super fun thing for your kiddos but my oldest son was addicted to picking out books he WANTED to read last summer and logging his points via the local library. I didn’t have to push reading on him, and it kept his reading up all summer long, this is a win win in my book. Added bonus? There are incentives for reading which keeps it fun!

Summer Kids’ Flicks: For $4 per person, you can head on over to a Grand Theatre for their summer promotion. On Tuesdays and Wednesday at 10AM, catch a kids movie with a box of popcorn and a drink for $4. Did I mention the Kenner location has these awesome leather seats?

Water Fun: Our guide for 10 Places For Water Fun in and Around New Orleans will surely keep your kids busy with water play. From pools to splash parks and even lazy rivers, you’ll surely find something that will spark your family’s interest.

Arts & Crafts Classes: Did you know that your local Joann and Michaels have arts and crafts classes for kiddos?  Some classes are as affordable as $2! Check them out online or contact your local stores on how to register.

Fun at your Local Library: Besides summer reading, your local library has a lot to offer. I just glanced at the June schedule and it’s FULL of summer fun. Storytime, Lego Club, Audubon Bugmobile and a visit from a clown! These outings cost you nothing, get you out the house and the kids will love it!

How will you be spending your carefree days? What will you do to beat your kids summer time boredom?
