Holiday Movie Guide {Must See Movies for the Holidays}

African American Family watching holiday moviesIt’s the holiday season! Not sure about anyone else, but I’m so excited to see all the festive lights, drink eggnog or hot chocolate then get cozy in my matching PJs, with my family while watching so many holiday movies.

Speaking of movies, I’m such a geek about a great holiday movie. Getting lost in the stories that they tell gives the true meaning of why the holidays are important. The stories give hope, joy, inspiration, magic, and even some good old fashion romance. I’m a sucker for a good romantic love story.

I’ve seen many holiday movies…some amazing and some not so amazing. I wanted to share a few of my favorites. They are in no particular order and most of them are on streaming sites.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I have!

Recent Movies

These are some of my favorites that have been released in the last couple of years.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (Netflix) – This movie is amazing. It has a great cast. And is simply magical. Must see for sure. Tells the story of a toymaker who falls victim to his “assistant” after years of trying to save his shop, then his granddaughter arrives to save him.

Operation Christmas Drop (Netflix) – Inspired by a real-life military mission where an Air Force base raises supplies to donate to small islands around Guam.

The Princess Switch (Netflix) – A baker and a duchess switch places to experience what it’s like in the other’s shoes. You can also catch part two on Netflix now.

The Knight Before Christmas (Netflix) – What can I say? I guess I enjoy a good Vanessa Hodgens movie. But this is a cute movie where a knight magically appears in modern times during Christmas.

Holidate (Netflix) – Two strangers who hate the holidays make a deal to be each other’s dates for all holiday festivities.

Disney’s Noelle (Disney+) – The daughter of Santa wants to do something important like her brother, as he is in training to be the next Santa. Feeling so much pressure, he leaves to clear his head and never returns. So Noelle goes in search to find him and bring him back to the North Pole.  Such a fun and quirky movie.

This Christmas (Hulu) – Pretty funny movie about a family trying to survive Christmas with each other.

A Bad Moms Christmas (Netflix) – Because, sometimes, we just need to see some craziness.

A new movie coming out in the next few weeks is Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square on Netflix, and looks like it’s going to be a really good movie.

The Classics

These are movies that are on my family’s must watch every year!

It’s a Wonderful Life
Miracle on 34th Street
Elf
The Santa Clause, but just the first one. There other two are okay and I usually watch when nothing else is on.
Home Alone 1&2
The Grinch
The Polar Express. (I get chills every time I see this movie.)
A Divas Christmas Carol
The Preachers Wife  (What’s a Christmas movie marathon without this on the list?)
The majority of the Hallmark Channel movies (I know some think they are cheesy but they do have some really good ones.)
And of course, all the holiday baking shows: Side note, if anyone out there knows how I can be a judge on any of them please send me the information, I’ve always wanted to be a part of those shows.

These are just a few of my faves. I truly enjoy watching all things Christmas. There is something magical that comes from watching them. Getting the family together to sit around and watch new or classic movies (maybe with some hot chocolate) is a great tradition for all families.

Are any of your faves on the list? What are some that I missed? Let’s chat about it.
