I Put My Tree Up Before Thanksgiving!

Christmas tree

Listen, I was one of those people that was adamant about waiting until the day after Thanksgiving to put up my Christmas tree. I am not one to look at the clock on October 31st and take my witches hat off and put on my Santa hat on November 1st. Christmas music before Thanksgiving? No way! Thanksgiving is just as important of a holiday to our family and is often overlooked, so we make sure we celebrate Thanksgiving and all we are thankful for.

On Thanksgiving, during a “normal” year and not a pandemic year, we all get together at my parents’ house and have Thanksgiving around noon. I know our family is not the only one that starves until noon so your tummy is empty and ready for all of the goodies! We do the typical turkey, my mom makes her “world famous” potato salad, gotta have some rolls, and then a side or two. We try to change this up every year, keep it fresh, ya know?

The next day, while most are in line for Black Friday deals, we are home taking all the Thanksgiving stuff down and putting the Christmas stuff up. It is probably my favorite part of the whole Thanksgiving week events. So, why not just go ahead and put the tree up now? This year has been, for lack of a better term, poop. Why not go ahead and bring the joy of Christmas into the house a little early? Did my OCD while waiting to decorate creep up? Yeah, it did. I almost feel guilty decorating. I always think of a meme I saw a few years ago that says, “Every time a tree goes up before Thanksgiving, an elf drowns a baby reindeer!” or something like that. While it is meant to be funny (don’t come after me, I didn’t make the meme haha), I always think, oh man, I can’t contribute to the death of a baby reindeer!

Well, yesterday, I did it. I said, sorry baby reindeer, and I put up my tree. I decorated the entire inside of my house like it was the day after Thanksgiving. We played Christmas music and drank hot chocolate and just enjoyed the happiness of this experience. Now, the outside of my house is still covered in pumpkins and Fall decor, keeping up with the seasons, but walk inside of our house, and you are in Southern Winter Wonderland.

When do you normally decorate for Christmas? Are you an avid wait-er to decorate or are you ready as soon as the clock strikes midnight on November 1st?
