Christmas before Thanksgiving? Girl bye!
It was one point in my life where I would say “why are we putting up Christmas decorations so early?” and “why are the stores putting out Christmas displays before Thanksgiving?” Insert eye roll and mumbles under the breath. “Ugh!”
Thanksgiving is its own holiday. It needs its time to shine too. Am I right?
Yes, in the stores it is a bit extreme to have Christmas displays alongside a ghostly looking animatronic doll during Halloween. Now I have more anxiety because I’m reminded that Christmas is literally right around the corner.
However, in my mid-thirties, I have chosen to embrace the fact that Christmas can start on November 1st.
If it makes you happy, then just do it.
So if you are hesitant on putting up those Christmas decorations BEFORE Thanksgiving, here is your confirmation that you can. It’s literally up to you.
I chose to to put my decorations already because of one thing: it makes me happy. Christmas, to me, seems like the one time of year when everyone can come together, celebrate each other, and remember the true reason for the season, the celebration of the birth of our Lord. It’s a representation of joy, hope, peace, happiness, and love. Something that we all could use these days.
On top of that, the decorations are always beautiful to see. It’s like going to the beach to find just a moment of peace and serenity. It brings out everyone’s creativeness and the massive sharing of all the TikTok fun DIY Christmas décor videos, in hopes that one day we can recreate them ourselves.
Not to mention beautiful pictures to capture all the memories with loved ones. I enjoy all the family pictures that go around during the holidays. I mean, if you can start taking the pics in early November, then why can’t you decorate then?
So, if you’re the mom who has her Christmas music already set, and decorations taken out of storage ready to put out on November 1st, that is awesome. And if you are the mom who waits until after Thanksgiving, that’s cool too.
Do what makes you happy. Live in your moment. Don’t worry about what others say. If it brings you joy, do what’s best for you.
