The Magic of Holiday Movies

I must admit, I am the ultimate sucker for a good old cheesy rom-com or romance movie. I mean the cheesier the better in my opinion.

Now that we are amidst the holiday season, it seems like every network or streaming platform is coming out with holiday movies. Guess what? I’m here for all of them! In all my years of watching Christmas movies, they all have somewhat of the same plot, whether it’s a romance movie, musical, or a heartfelt family movie. However, I still look forward to watching all the holiday movies I come across. To be honest, I was out of work sick for one week with a virus, and I spent the whole week watching Christmas movies.

There is just something about a beautiful love story, especially with a Christmas theme. It’s the magic of Christmas that makes me teary-eyed in some of these movies. I don’t know about you, but I always want to cheer for the main character to find her / his true love on Christmas or that they are not the family screw-up. Even the good old diva who is mean as hell and finds her holiday cheer after meeting her three ghosts of Christmas past. I mean what is there not to like about these movies?

The reason that I enjoy these movies so much is that it’s an escape. They showcase that Christmas is not just about receiving gifts, but it’s the magic of being open with ourselves and if we believe, it may just happen.

Didn’t we all have that same desire as children? That one day our prince would come, and we could have this fairytale wedding? Well, I know I did. LOL.

But the whole reason for holiday movies is to make the viewer feel good and to help them believe in the magic of Christmas. As adults, we unknowingly forget the true meaning of the holidays. These millions of movies help us to remember:

  1. To celebrate the birth of Jesus by honoring the beautiful story of his arrival on Earth
  2. That as a community, we can come together by giving in a loving way
  3. That the magic of the holidays surrounds us not only with just beautiful decorations but
    with love, joy, and hopefulness.

So, when you sit with your family and watch another holiday movie, remember, that yes, they may be cheesy or predictable, but there is always a deeper meaning and purpose. So, sit back, relax, and if you must cry, do it, and take in all the magic that comes with holiday movies.
