Three Easy Ways to Green your Beauty Routine

It’s January, and most everyone is working to be better this year. I know I am. Every year, I strive to be more eco-friendly, save money, and take better care of myself. I usually don’t make too much of a dent in any of those categories because life. But this year, I found an easy way to accomplish all three things without any added stress.

Most people have at least three face wash essentials: cleansing, toning and moisturizing. The commercial products, especially the ones labeled “natural” and “organic,” can get quite costly. Below, I have found natural, affordable and effective replacements for all three of those beauty staples. beautyig1

Green Your Beauty Routine

Wash your face with honey. Yes, honey!! Raw honey is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and filled with all kinds of goodness. It is a little strange at first, but I will never go back to commercial face cleansers. The best part is that honey is much more eco friendly than commercial products, much less expensive, and works better than anything else I’ve tried.

Tone your face with Witch Hazel. Before, the only thing I knew about witch hazel was I needed it to help with discomfort after childbirth. To my surprise, witch hazel is also an amazing toner. I switched from my expensive natural brand to a $2.99 bottle, and no one would ever know the difference. Frankly, I’m surprised companies can sell toner when there is such an effective, inexpensive product out there. It is available at most drugstores (and of course Walmart and Target).

Moisturize your face with coconut oil. We have already established many uses for coconut oil. It is a great way to leave your face feeling silky smooth without adding any chemicals or artificial ingredients. When you combine the coconut oil moisturizer with the raw honey face wash, you only need a very small amount of coconut oil as the honey helps your face retain moisture. Again, this is something natural, affordable and quite effective.

*BONUS: Exfoliate your skin with baking soda. After a while, dead skin builds up on our face and we need to exfoliate. I love when I can get a facial to help rejuvenate my skin. Even with my awesome new beauty routine, I still need some professional help. However, regular visits to the esthetician are not in my budget right now, so I found something that helps keep my face in good shape in the meantime: Baking Soda. All you have to do is mix a little baking soda with water (or even with your honey) and gently but firmly rub it into your skin, then rinse off and pat dry. You can do this up to once a week, or depending on your skin type, once every two weeks is good enough.

There you have it. If you are interested in saving money or being more eco-friendly, this beauty routine will definitely help you, and you do not have to sacrifice quality. These items work as well as, if not better than the expensive products I used to “need.”
