Fashionably Pregnant {Utilizing What I Had and Making it Work}

We have all been there, we have the cute baby bump, we’re glowing yet emotional but when it comes to getting dressed, NOTHING FITS!!

Do I have to get dressed?

During my third trimester, it was mid-summer last year and it was hot! I had to dress up, look presentable, but that was the last thing I wanted to do. I really wanted to sit on the sofa, with the A/C  blaring and eat a box full of New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Company onion rings with a sweet tea and chocolate chip cookies. That wasn’t the case though, I had to go to work.

As I would get dressed in the mornings, I would spend 10 minutes staring into my closet trying to find something that either fit or was even comfortable. While getting fed up with the choices I had, I told myself that I would go shopping for some maternity clothes.

Boy was that the hardest task ever, especially being a plus-size woman!

Why is this plus-size section so small?

When going to the maternity store or section, some would have a rack of the plus sizes and most of them looked like the couch from my grandmother’s house. On the pants they carried, the belly parts always rolled down. What was a girl to do?

A Girl’s Got to Do What A Girl’s Got to Do

When it was all said and done, I was 100% fed up so I took upon myself to make this plus size pregnant fashion thing work.

I took a deep look at some of my older outfits and tried again. I actually found some knit dresses and skirts that I didn’t think would fit and accessorized them with some cute jewelry.

Leggings were my best friend (and still are). I purchased a few a size larger to stretch over my belly and I threw on a flowy top and all was perfect.

Big belts helped accentuate my curves (and belly) especially when I was wearing an item that was too big.

Thinking back, I saved money by just staying in my closet and utilizing all the shopping trips I had before my pregnancy. Yes, I did splurge in some stores but hey it was a good reason to go shopping, and who doesn’t like to get new clothes?!

What did you use to spice up your pregnancy fashion?
