The Grandparent you Didn’t Meet

Hey, little one, you’re a little young to understand, but I will definitely talk more about in the this in the future. You may notice a missing grandparent, she was my mommy so that would make her your grandmother. She left us a few years ago before you were even thought of, but I’m sure she knew about you before I did.

A Lesson in Love

She was a very strong assertive woman, who everyone loved, she was a fighter, teacher and would command attention in any room she walked in. She taught me a lot in her 51 years of life and one of the most important things she taught me is love. I never understood it until I had you, but now that I look back at all the memories with her, I now see what she meant all those years.

She’s Here with You

Nights I watch you as you’re asleep and see a little smile on your face and think, “Is that your grandmother playing with you, doing little silly things to make you laugh? What are you two talking about? Is she reading you a bedtime story?”

We know her presence is around because sometimes you’ll look off in the distance and start laughing and talking; literally real conversations. This makes me happy that she’s watching over you and going over things with you that I may have missed, even the days where I feel I can’t go on because I miss her.

My Promise to you

I promise to tell you all the truthful stories, the pretty and the flawed about your grandmother. So, you know that not everyone is perfect, and we all make mistakes. I can’t wait to show you all the pictures we have of her so you can look in the mirror and see the similarities you two share. I hope you’ll ask all the questions about her so that you can see the same personalities you two share. I promise to have everyone who was ever closed to her, share their stories with you so that you can learn how to be the strong, generous, loveable woman just like everyone saw in her. I can’t wait to see what you take out of the stories, pictures, and your dream encounters and teach your children the history of both sides of your family and see that no matter what love is always with you and that you’ll never be alone.

Keep this in your heart and always remember those we’ve lost even before we had a chance to meet them.

We are their legacy, their stories are our stories and that’s how we remember those before us.
