I’m Quitting Adulting :: Throwing An Adult Tantrum

Ugh … do I have to get up today and actually do that thing called “WORK?”

If you clicked on this blog post, then that means you have to thought about quitting this thing called “adulthood.” This thing called daily life where you are responsible for ALL THINGS including other human beings and you are just worn out.

The adulting thing … it’s like a lesson learned and the whole finger-pointing “I told you so.” I told you this is what to expect. It’s like your parents constantly reminding you in high school to enjoy high school while you can because once reality sets in, you’re going to wish you were back in high school. It’s like your siblings or your cousins or your best friend saying “hey make sure you enjoy the freedom of college, sleep, free time and bathroom time (ALONE).”

Adulting … I stress … SUCKS. And no one could have possibly prepared us for it.

Why didn’t someone tell WARN us about trying to juggle a career, family, and our sanity would be probably one of the hardest things we’d had to do in life?

You know as that naive teenager, all we wanted to do was get out of our parents house and have all the freedom and control our own lives and have our own apartment and our own car what we didn’t know was how hard it would be to maintain. We filled out that “where I want to be in 5, 10, 20 years survey,” in high school. For me, I would be married to my prince charming with the best clothes and well behaved children and a nanny/housekeeper (bubble popped … thanks for nothing Cinderella)!! Are you where you predicted you would be?

Who knew that having a career, having a mortgage, having a partner, having bills, and having a million dollars worth of student loans would not be as easy?

I got 99 problems and ADULTING is every single one. The tantrum continues …

Hard evidence of why adulting sucks ::

Owning a car

If it breaks guess who’s responsible for paying for it? Yep, WE ARE.

Eating

Well guess who is responsible for not only making groceries but getting in the car using your gas and your time to get those groceries? Yep, WE ARE.

Owning a home

Oh I know for sure I didn’t personally think that I would have to be the plumber and the electrician and a painter and the interior designer, or you know all the things that come with owning a home? Yep, WE ARE responsible.

Marriage

I married someone who is my COMPLETE OPPOSITE. Do you know who is responsible for dropping it like it’s hot when you’d rather be in sweats watching This Is Us? Yep, WE ARE.

Children

Feed them, cloth them, soothe them, schedule playdates, schedule their 5,000 appointments, entertain them, read to them … guess who’s responsible YEP, WE ARE.

Laundry

STACKS ON STACKS ON STACKS … sorting, vertical folding, getting shocked, rinsing poopie underwear while potty training, putting them away neatly … YEP, WE ARE

And those were only a few. Let’s not even talk about career, maintaining friendships and extended family, vacations, and  college funds.

So as you’re reading, notice “self care” was never mentioned. Nothing about going to get manicures, facials, or that much needed wax. Oh there’s no time for self-care. Why? Because adulting sucks. Yep,we are responsible for doing it ALL so we DESERVE to take a break from adult thing for at least five minutes and drown ourselves in chocolate, trash tv, and social media.

TANTRUM OVER. Time for carpool.
