Continue to Practice Safety {Entering into Phase 2 of Reopening}

The city is now in phase two of re-opening: people are out enjoying all the things we’ve missed during quarantine, eating out, shopping in stores, and just having interaction with other people.

For me, I’m still nervous about everything. I’m now back at work; I started back around Mid-May during phase 1. We had a limit to how many people could come into the store and everyone was required to wear masks.  Now more people are allowed in, but guests still have to wear a mask.

I’m still nervous; COVID-19 hasn’t just disappeared. Cases are still being announced and we are still under limited restrictions. I can admit I’ve gone a few places, I worked out with my trainer at the lake, and even took my daughter to a little birthday party. But I made sure I did what I had to do to keep me and my daughter safe. Lately, though, as I travel around the city, I see a lot of people without a mask on and not practicing social distancing.

Give me 6 feet, please

I was in line at the grocery store and someone came up in the lane behind me. As I moved up to an inch away for some space, she moved up too, so I politely asked her to step back. She was a little shocked, but I needed my space. I’m not one to really confront people–I’m an enneagram 9. We do not like confrontation, so for me to ask this person to move was actually a big deal for me. I honestly feel like I stood up for something.

I just need people to understand that this is still an ongoing case and we need to practice safety. I know we are all excited to be in our normal lives, but still, let’s respect each other and our space. We have come a long way in reducing the spread, so let’s keep it up. Wash your hands, wear your mask, it protects those around you. I’ve noticed, from seeing friends who’ve actually had the virus, that it can affect people differently. One friend the virus had a big impacted on where the person was hospitalized and the other, she was just given meds and had to self-quarantine for 2-4 weeks. Hearing about that from people I actually know really made me realized that it’s this virus is really nothing to play with and we still need to take precautions.

Even if you don’t think too much about the virus, do it for your community, your fellow man, woman, and child.

Are you still wearing a mask or practicing social distancing?
