5 Ways to Save Money & Eat Healthier {Guest Post by Northshore Mama}

I have been a “savings blogger” for three and half years. One of the most common excuses/reasons/complaints I hear about the whole thing is that “coupons are all for processed junk.” Well, that may have been the case in the past, but not anymore!

NOMB-5-ways-save-healthier-600x398I am amazed at how many ways there are to save money on even organic foods now. I started eating a semi-paleo diet about a month ago. I have lost 12 pounds, and I am sold! However, when I want to branch out a little and broaden my horizons…OMG! My couponing budget goes into shock!

I have realized that it really is very expensive to eat healthy.

I think that is part of why we have such poor health and high obesity rates in our area. So, I am happy to report that I have discovered SEVERAL ways to cut down on the cost of eating better.

Saving Star

The app that I use SavingStar offers a “Healthy Item of the Week.” They have a fresh, loose produce item each week that offers you a 20% cash back rebate. It may be bananas, avocado, tomatoes, broccoli…but it’s something new and fresh each week. The deals usually refresh on Wednesdays, and you have until the next Tuesday to buy and redeem them. This week, through Tuesday, 9/23, you get 20% on avocados which is valid up to a $10 purchase or a 20% discount. Cash out after collecting $5+ in rebates. If you shop at Winn Dixie or CVS, you can connect your store cards and activate the deals before you shop. For other stores, you can upload your receipt to get your credits. They have recently added Walgreens, Walmart, Target, Sam’s and Costco to the list of participating stores that can be used with the scanning portion of the program.

Checkout51

Checkout51 is another cash back program that I use a lot. They often have a few fresh items such as eggs, fruit, and milk, as well as the occasional organic brands. Just scan your receipts in after you have purchased and see the credit in your account within a day or two. This app has a higher cashout threshold of $20, but every little bit helps! Plus, it’s good at any store! No limitations that I have seen; you just have to have a receipt with date, time and details of the purchase.

Shopmium

Shopmium is, yet another one that I use for cash back. They often feature organic brands like Organic Valley, Canyon Bakehouse and Barbara’s. Occasionally, they will offer fresh produce rebates, too.

This one a bit different from the others because it offers a referral bonus of $2 per friend that signs up using your code. However, your referral bonuses are held until you redeem an offer. For example, if you have referred 2 friends then, you have $4 in referrals. Let’s say that you buy a product that costs $4 and redeem a rebate for $1 back. You will get the $1 back from the offer, along with $3 from your referral bank to cover the full price of the product making it free. Last week, I purchased 4 items at Fresh Market in Mandeville and got $15.68 cash back making all of them free. Each item had a $1-2 rebate, then they covered the rest from my referrals.

Shopmium does not have a payout threshold. You get paid for each offer as soon as it is processed. So, it may only be $1, but you get it within a day or so after validating the purchase.

Currently, new users can get a free Lindt Chocolate Bar when you sign up using a referral code. Mine is GMCEGEPA, and I would LOVE to treat you to a Lindt Chocolate Bar! I suggest the Salted Caramel! YUM! Er – you know – for your cheat day!

Note: If you do not use a referral code to sign up, you will not get the free candy bar.

Ibotta

IbottaAn old favorite, Ibotta has added TONS of healthy, fresh and/or organic items to their galleries lately. Currently, you can get rebates on a gallon of milk, tons of products from Enjoy Life, Justin’s, Beanitos, Beyond Beef and Beyond Chicken, earth balance, and more. While their deals are usually store specific, Whole Foods is one of them, and you can get tons of deals there using these rebates!

BerryCart

Finally, the newest and most healthy option. BerryCart is very similar to Ibotta, except that it is ALL healthy foods! Currently, I see Pyure Organic Stevia, Beyond Beef and Beyone Chicken (There’s a double stack with the Ibotta offersl!) Beanitos (another double dip), Don’t go Nuts Soy Butter, several gluten free offers, then BONE SUCKIN’ SAUCE?!?!?! Who knew that stuff was healthy?!?Yep – it is listed as Non-GMO, Kosher, Gluten-free, Paleo Friendly, and No sugar! Word!

All of these programs can be accessed through the links in each description. These are either my affiliate or referral links and I would love for you to use them. However, I honestly use each and every one of them ALL the time and have gotten hundreds of dollars back on groceries using them. Most of them can be done at home, without anyone knowing that you are a gluten-free, organic, vegan, kosher-paleo couponer!

Do you have any tips for saving money while eating healthier?
