Perspectives in Parenting

Perspectives in parenting, mom with special needs child coloring

Sometimes you just need to hear the ideas, thoughts, and opinions of other parents. Our Perspectives in Parenting section is focused on providing a place for you to find out what other moms are thinking and how they are handling the issues that go along with the hard job of being a parent.

There are a lot of different perspectives in parenting and New Orleans Mom is a place where these different ideas can be shared. We strive to provide not just valuable information to mothers across the Crescent City, but also ideas about how to think about the issues in their lives.

In our Perspectives in Parenting section, you’ll find lots of stories about the everyday events, problems, annoyances, and issues that we all face as moms. We talk about the household and the challenges of keeping everyone in the family working together.  We offer tips on how to recognize and reflect on the good things in our lives. We also tackle difficult topics about our society and culture

Some of our perspectives in parenting stories offer key advice on wellness. We take you through some of the challenging parts of motherhood, like how and when to use a breast pump, while also offering an amusing look at alternative uses of breastmilk

Our writers talk about important things that Moms in the Big Easy need to know, such as how to teach financial responsibility to your children or how to survive the stresses of the holiday season.

With more than 30 contributors to New Orleans Mom, we offer our readers unique Big Easy perspectives in parenting that they won’t find anywhere else.

My husband and I see a marriage counselor. We're not the least bit ashamed or embarrassed. You see, we decided to get ahead of the game and see her often, even though we don't "need it." Like most couples, my...
Throughout my life, the holidays have always been just like the song - the most wonderful time of the year. We had so many traditions that you would think we were the Claus family. Every moment from November through...
Ever since I was a young girl, I knew that one day I would adopt a child. That desire was never far from my heart. When I met my husband-to-be Brian in November of 1994, I asked him on our...

Changing Lives Through Foster Care When you see Kim and Kristyn Carver with their three young daughters, you probably wouldn’t guess their family came together a little differently than most. With three girls, you may notice an excess of pink...

I work full time. My husband also works full time. We have three amazing children, aged 5, 3, and 10 months. Logistically, this is pretty much a nightmare. My job is not very flexible. My husband's job is flexible...
All I ever wanted in life was to be a mom. I never thought wanting to be a mom would be such a hard thing to make happen. After years of infertility, we never thought it would be such a...
Most newborns spend, at most, a few days in the hospital. During that special time, they are able to share their mother’s room, and then be carried out of the hospital in their mother’s arms to forever be hers....
I had a normal, healthy pregnancy with my first child. No high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, or swelling. My weight gain was within the normal range (although I probably should have gained far less considering how poorly I ate). But all-in-all, it was...
