I survived my first year as a dance mom!
Well, I mean as a first-time mom period, everything is survival, but they turn into beautiful lessons with so many great rewards.
Anyway, our first dance experience was amazing! I honestly didn’t go into this expecting much, since we are starting off young. However, the main goal of signing my baby up for anything recreational is to give her the chance to find something that she can become passionate about.
I wanted to share some ways to help first times moms how they can have a successful year as dance moms.
Don’t go in with high expectations
When I first went into the meeting for the new season, the room was full. I’m thinking to myself that this is going to be a lot, but I honestly did have some expectations. I did, however, think my baby would be doing twirls and leaps by dance recital. Well, not to that extreme but you get it. But as the season went on, I noticed a few changes which I’m super proud of. And she did awesome at her recital.
Communication is key
All studios are different, so be sure to find out how to commutate with upcoming events, practices, etc. The studio we are with has set rules that make things run smoothly for them. At first, I hated it but seeing it all together, I understand why it is important.
Chat with veteran moms
I’m usually not one to actually just walk up to people, so it took me a while to chat with other moms. Maybe they could tell I was new, but they just started talking to me and telling me about their experience. How they enjoy being a dance mom and how well they have seen their daughters develop over the years. And also the good and bad things of what to expect. It’s nice to know all of what goes on.
Ask questions
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. I can assure another mom will have the same question.
We all want the best for our children, so whatever sport or extracurricular activity our kids chose it’s always going to be a new lesson. Parenting is all about new things and learning as we go. I cant wait to see all the fun things my daughter will become interested in; I’m excited to be her biggest fan!
