I See You, Teacher

Dear Teacher,

I just want you to know, I see you at the end of the year.

I see the look of helplessness in your eyes as you see students struggle with standardized testing.

I see the concern on your face as you worry for that student you know is going to be home all summer in a broken home.

I see you trying to be positive in an ever-changing administration with new rules and policies every year that are out of your control.

I know as my family looks forward to going on vacation during our break, you are marking your summer calendar to attend teacher workshops during yours.

While we are going home after school playing in the yard enjoying the late daylight hours, you are staying late at school tidying up end-of-the-year paperwork.

I know while my children sleep late and rest mentally, you are getting up early and going to the school to make hundreds of copies for the next year.

When we are staying up late watching movies some summer nights, you may be cramming in lesson plans in between activities to still be able to enjoy your summer with your family.

While I am able to make a spur of the moment road trip one last time before school starts, you are turning down spontaneous events due to conferences and in-services.

I realize while we are cleaning out backpacks and deciding between a My Little Pony or Frozen one, you are completely renovating your classroom from top to bottom.

I cannot say thank you enough for all your efforts this year. Know your deeds do not go unnoticed and we parents thank you immensely.

For what it’s worth, enjoy your summer.
