…but you can’t take the New Orleans out of a mom!
A while back, we were contacted by a few different women that found our blog because of connections they had to New Orleans. All of these readers had coincidentally moved away, started businesses but shared one thing in common: they were originally from this amazing city of ours. While we usually focus on businesses that are right here in the greater New Orleans area, we couldn’t miss this opportunity to show you what some entrepreneurial native New Orleanians are doing in other cities!
Derng (Emily Segall)
Our motto is Bling Required! We feel bling is ALWAYS required and live by this motto everyday!
I started Derng.com because I saw a need for chain link and pave jewelry. Derng has a wide selection of rose gold, silver and gold chain link bracelets and necklaces. We also offer cross bracelets and other pave jewelry for everyday or special occasions. We have been featured on fashion blogs all over the web and many You Tube channels.
We are giving away one of our most popular bracelet sets, The Bricke Double Rose Gold Bracelets. The winner will receive the set, which includes two rose gold chain link bracelets. They are sold as a set but can be worn separately. The Bricke Collection is also available in other mixed colors. Retail value is $17. Good Luck!
Emily Segall currently resides in Houston, Texas with her husband and their two cats. While she’s not designing jewelry, she’s crossfitting or shopping with her giflfriends! Born and raised in New Orleans, Emily is a Dominican and UNO alum who left after Katrina, met her husband in Texas and stayed! They come back as often as they can for Acme oysters, Cafe du Monde and to visit family.
The Little Crane (Jessica and Sarah)
Sarah and I, the women behind The Little Crane, are first cousins and best friends. We grew up in New Orleans, went to LSU and both ended up in Houston post-Katrina. We’ve managed to create our own little NOLA here, with all of our closest friends being from Louisiana. Of course, nothing compares to the real deal, and every time we are in New Orleans we are homesick for everything about it. There is something about the culture and pride people feel for their hometown that nobody understands unless they are also from there. We miss being surrounded by that blanket of New Orleans lovin’!!!
This time last year, Sarah and I realized that we were spending all of our “fun funds” on smocked clothing for our girls, Maggie (1), and Laine and Olivia (2.5), from sites like Smocked Auctions and Smocktions (based in New Orleans), and we just decided to be brave, bite the bullet and do it ourselves! I’m a kindergarten teacher “on pause” staying at home with my 2.5 year old twin girls, so I knew I had spare time during naps and Sarah, a full-time financial analyst, would be able to handle spreadsheets, finances and overall organization while at work and in the evenings! Y’all…we were not prepared for the amount of work required to keep this small little business running and, more importantly, growing. It’s not just naps…it’s early mornings, naps, late nights and sometimes weekends! We’ve learned so much about the childrens’ clothing industry, as well as social media marketing in just 1 year. Literally – we committed to this last Halloween night. Wowza…one year went by fast!
We’re having so much fun and are so excited about what is in store for the upcoming year! We’ve found two new factories that produce amazing quality work and can’t wait to venture out into the world of home and trunk shows! Stay tuned for more scoop on this exciting aspect of our little world!
We are happy to be giving away a smocked fall floral bishop dress to one lucky reader. The dress is valued at $29. Live all the venders on NOMB
The last piece that I bought myself was an amber nursing necklace. I’d also love a little girl jumper personalized.
