Mom Win {I Survived my First Mardi Gras with a Toddler}

Whew, Mardi Gras is over. I can honestly say that this Mardi Gras holiday was a very emotional one, but we all came together as a community and still made the good times roll.

On another note, I can proudly say that I survived Mardi Gras with a toddler. *wipes sweat from forehead*. Yes, I said survived!

Hi, I’m a new mom and I worry about everything.

As a first-time mom, my thoughts go 1000 times a second. My brain was on overload before having a kid, but now it’s worse. So, imagine how worried I was when I went to my first parade with my daughter. The first parade we went to was Little Rascals in Metairie. We were invited by a friend to a birthday party. I wasn’t going to go, but I told myself that I can’t learn if I don’t go. Plus it was a birthday party. But we had a good time.  After that, I was confident enough to take her to a few others.

Thinking back on how carnival season went, I must say I’m pretty excited for next year. I learned a lot and I know I will be better prepared.

I’ll be ready for next year!

I wasn’t fully prepared for the parades, but what I experienced this year I will take it with me next year.

It definitely takes a mom tribe or a tribe none the less. The more friends and family you are with, the better the experience. Every parade we went to I had people with me, whether I was meeting them there or we went together. Even the fellow parade-goers helped.

Snacks are your best friend. Have a plan. I noticed from my fellow mom tribe they had plans. They scoped out where the closest restrooms were, they had their snack haul, and they were well packed with blankets. Popeyes (also your best friend) and I will definitely need a wagon or stroller. Preferably a wagon, from what I see you can use it for everything.

As I mentally prepare myself for next year’s carnival season (yes, a year from now) I’m going to keep the past experiences I’ve learned and become 100% prepared. I mean hey, what’s a life lesson without a few trials and errors?

Being a new mom, everything is a life lesson. Even the survival of a Mardi Gras Parade!

Ya’ll pray for me; she’s only one!
