Art Appreciation: Through the Eyes of A Child

It’s All In The Interpretation

We’ve all been there, a proud child presenting you with their artwork and then we look down and our eyes see something we are not expecting in the drawing or for the caption. We hang the picture on the fridge, showing them that we are proud of them, but of course, every time we walk by a little giggle emerges. If you have a little one not creating artwork yet, have a look below at some of the gems we veteran moms have acquired throughout the years.

Poppin’ Bottles

When my oldest was about 6 years old, we had a Football Sunday brunch with some friends, sometime in the morning my husband struggled to open a bottle of champagne, the adults were teasing him and all laughing at the struggle, fast forward and a sweet little girl comes and presents her interpretation of this event. Of course, it took everything for every adult in the room not to die laughing but instead say, “Yes that looks exactly like Daddy opening the champagne!” Now at 15 years old, she is completely mortified by this.

Santa Did What?

A friend posted this sweet picture her kindergartner drew of Santa riding through the snow on a bike, or at least that is what it was meant to be, her caption says otherwise. I love the teacher’s correction  and positive sticker.

Pooper Scooper

Impressed by the new pooper scooper her family had just acquired, it was worthy of a MagnaDoodle drawing.

This Mom Must Workout

All those mornings at Orange Theory must have impressed this child because they love their mom because, “She is buttflex” cheers to you Mama, be strong and beautiful 🙂

Wine Is Important

One of the most important things learned about Jesus, he blessed the wine, and for that we are thankful. Praise Be.

Human Anatomy Is Nothing To Be Ashamed Of

It only seems appropriate that a gingerbread man would have a gingerbread penis, right?

What A Sweet Baby

This interpretation of a baby wearing a diaper, with leg holes of course.

Turkey Preparation

Groping a turkey is one way to massage the butter and seasoning into the skin.

Of course, all these pieces of artwork have been saved, they are all drawn with pride and in pure innocence by sweet little artists. They’ve served their purpose in making us smile, some of these pictures are years old, some only months, but they will forever be in our minds and bring a little laughter when we recall them later in life. Do you have any pieces of art to add?

Thank you to all my friends who submitted their artist’s work.

Nikki
Nikki was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, she has lived in Seattle and Portland. After visiting New Orleans, she fell in love with the city, and she and her husband decided to take a chance and move from the PNW to NOLA. Nikki has two kids, Amaya (16) and Tyson (13), she and her husband Dave have been married for 16 years, they live on the Northshore. Nikki works full time as a NICU nurse. Nikki and her family have fully embraced the culture of New Orleans, while they live on the Northshore, they play in New Orleans as often as they can. As a member of New Orleans Mom, she hopes to bring the perspective of the veteran mom and life with big kids and teenagers.
