Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. This is the day of love and appreciation, a day to celebrate the beauty of love. Each year you try to do something a little more special – find a new restaurant, buy flowers, favorite candy, the whole nine yards.
But I mean we do live in New Orleans. Everyone is at the same restaurant, it’s usually packed, and even though you make a reservation, most times you’re still waiting on a table. I was thinking for this year and years to come, I would try to find creative things to do on this day.
Here are a few ideas for a creative non-traditional Valentine’s Day, NOLA style.
Celebrate with the Krewe
This year Valentine’s day falls on a Friday and the parades are rollin’. Find a good spot in Metairie and catch the Krewe of Excalibur, or head to the Uptown parades and enjoy the festivities. I mean, who doesn’t love a good night out enjoying all that is Mardi Gras, plus it’s the day of love so it’ll be ok to cuddle up (if the weather is chilly) outside and catch a bead or 100!
If you don’t want the night to end, head over to Café Du Monde, get some beignets, and walk along the river.
Sippin’ and Paintin’
We have so many sip and paint classes located across the city. Sign up for a class and enjoy each other while painting a pretty picture and drink a daiquiri or some wine. The classes usually suggest you bring your own beverage, so the sky’s the limit on drinks!
Cheers!
Picnic and a Movie
This one is pretty old school, but still fun! Who doesn’t like a good vintage movie? I recently discovered that there are a few theaters in the city that actually show older movies and still have that “vintage” feel to them.
Before you go, create a snack platter with all the fixings, go to the park and have a nice picnic together.
Tour the city
There is so much to do in New Orleans, especially when it comes to tours. You can do a ghost tour or swamp tour, head to the museums, and even do a brewery tour! Now that’s my kind of date!
Quiet evening at home
Don’t feel like going out and getting stuck in all the parade traffic? Find a local chef to come over and cook for you. If that’s out of the budget, order some take out! Super easy!
These are things we would probably do as a regular date, but you can get creative and make it all Valentine’s Day themed. Make it fun with a scavenger hunt and have your partner meet you at some of the places. Be unique!
I love a good creative date, so make it fun!
Be simple! Cook your love one his and her favorites and celebrate their love at home, reminiscing on the times y’all shared and enjoy each other. Best things in life are free. Hugs , kisses, dancing and just being apart of one another.
Yes, I agree. It’s the little things that matter. Simple can be a good thing. Thanks for sharing!
