Kid-Friendly Mini King Cake Recipe :: Make a Mini King Cake With Your Minis!

Kid-Friendly Mini King Cake Recipe

It’s Mardi Gras time in New Orleans, so we are craving all the king cake! If you are looking for a kid-friendly king cake recipe, I have the easiest solution for you. I don’t know about your kids, but my kids love sweets, icing and sugar. They also love to help in the kitchen. My sweet sister-in-law showed up with this mini king cake idea and it was totally a hit!

I am not the mom who goes to all of the parades (though rock on if you, too, skip nap time for parade time). We do go to some but I like to incorporate crafts (like this long-standing shoe box float tradition) and baking into Carnival season. There are lots of ways to enjoy the Carnival season besides attending every parade. Here is one way to be festive from the warmth of your home. You can even play some Mardi Gras music for fun while you bake. For added fun, you can throw in some masks and a king cake baby.

Kid-friendly mini king cake recipe ingredients ::

  • 1 can of crescent rolls
  • Colored Sugar – We used Yellow, Green, and Purple
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar
  • Water

Step 1 (pre-bake) :: Take crescent rolls out and roll them into a circle. Connect the ends. Sprinkle with Cinnamon. Follow Crescent Roll directions for baking. Put them in the oven on a cookie sheet and bake.

Step 2. Next, while the king cakes are in the oven, mix powdered sugar and water to make the icing. Mix to the consistency that you like. Let the mini king cakes cool, then drizzle icing on top. Next, sprinkle with colored sugar.

Yummy! All done. Eat and enjoy it. Celebrating Mardi Gras with kids in New Orleans is really the best!

My kids really enjoyed this activity, and they were super excited to celebrate Mardi Gras and feel like they were part of the experience. The mini king cakes are delicious for both kiddos and parents. If you are looking for a more ambitious adult king cake recipe, I recommend this one.
