Ok Mommas. The holidays are right around the corner, and we have some preparing to do. I’m not talking about planning fun family events. I’m not talking about getting your family ready for pictures. I’m not talking about tackling your Christmas list. I’m talking about the “Holiday Work Party.” It’s almost time.

If your spouse works outside of your home, you will likely get an invite to their office’s holiday gathering. I have pulled together a few tips to help get you ready!

Research the outside world.

You have been raising babies. Depending on the age of your kids, you probably have a wealth of knowledge regarding the latest recalls on toys, what each PJ Mask character is named, and the street value of a cosmic brownie in the lunchroom. Now, these are very important, but do yourself a favor and spend 20 minutes on a news website and get a couple of headlines under your belt. All kinds of things have been going on out there.

Buy an outfit.

Don’t go to the back of your closet looking for that pre-baby LBD (Little Black Dress) that you used to rock. You are thinking about trying it on right now, aren’t you? Stop it. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. Trends have changed. Someone let the 90’s back in … which for this short torso-ed momma in a high waisted world, isn’t the best. Find something that makes you feel beautiful … that doesn’t have spit up on it.

Play the name game.

Your brain is mush. You will forget peoples’ names because at this point you sometimes forget your own kids’ names. Talk with your partner, and have a plan to hopefully avoid any awkward name follies. Here’s a script …

Partner, while walking up to Boss: “Hi, Boss named John that we have known for    years … you remember my wife, (insert your name)!”

You: “Oh, Darling, of course, I remember John!”

Know your limit.

You are excited. A night out is always coveted. However, this is no time to flex those long-dormant party girl muscles. You haven’t trained. You aren’t ready. Have a nice cocktail or two … and then HAVE A DIET COKE! Nobody wants to watch you steal the mic from the DJ and proceed to give shout outs to all your spouse’s coworkers.

Well, I hope this list helps you as you prepare for the most wonderful time of the year. Happy Holidays! And, seriously, stop thinking about that LBD.
