Holiday Trends That You Should Wear (Yes YOU Mama!)

Raise your hand if you have all of your kids’ Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve outfits planned, but nothing for yourself. Come on, you know who you are! You probably even have your partner’s clothes picked out. Maybe you do have something for yourself that color coordinates with everyone else. However, while the kids are monogrammed and smocked you are in a solid colored cotton dress. If that is what you makes you feel your best, props to you. I suspect though that you are scrolling Instagram admiring how glamorous your favorite bloggers look in their holiday guides, family holiday photos, etc. Well guess what, those bloggers are moms just like you and me. They aren’t models. They don’t have stylists. They just feel good in their own skin. The holidays are the perfect time to get adventurous and try new things. Spice up your regular wardrobe with a little glamour. Here are my favorite trends for this holiday season.

Vegan Leather

Vegan leather (aka pleather) is hot right now. It’s not just for shoes and jackets anymore. You can find leather skirts, leggings, tops, dresses, and more! Dress it up or wear it casual. Whether you want to stick to classic black or branch out to camel or wine colored, it’s available. There is something about wearing leather that makes you feel sexy, and leather leggings are actually comfortable. I wear mine with a chunky sweater on days I’m going from Trader Joe’s to lunch with a friend. Or also with a flannel top to a Christmas event with my kids.

Animal Prints

Animal prints are huge and I am so here for it! Leopard is like low key basic animal print now that tiger, zebra, and snake are everywhere. While animal prints may seem bold and overwhelming, think of them as neutrals with an edge. Gray tone snakeskin is probably the easiest way to dip your toe in the animal print pond. Try soft cotton tops or skirts first. Once you are ready to go bold, there are dresses and jumpsuits out there. If you are really feeling it, you can pair an animal print top with a leather bottom for date night or a holiday party.

Sequins

Y’all, Amanda is my name and flashy is my game. If I could wear sequins 24/7 I would. Sequins as a holiday trend makes my heart happy. Again, you can rock this trend in any way you like: tops, skirts, dresses, leggings, etc. Feel free to combine sequins with leather, animal print, or both! They may be flashy but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them for Thanksgiving lunch or Christmas day. You would be surprised how much pep that sparkle will add to your step. A great gold sequin piece can be worn to the Saints game with jeans or to a cocktail party. For example, a $24 sequin top can be worn with a leather skirt to drag brunch and then with dark jeans to your family’s Christmas Eve gathering.

OTK Boots

Over the knee boots are not just for cute effortlessly chic 20 somethings. Moms can rock them too! They definitely add flair to an outfit, and can be comfortable. I don’t have very long legs, so I don’t rock a thigh high boot. If you are comfortable with a boot that high, go for it. Find the right heel height for your comfort level, and you can take your OTK boot from parent teacher conference to dinner at Meril.

Our family doesn’t get overly dressed up for holidays and we don’t go to any fancy parties. So I personally wear these trends (some together) to jazz up a casual outfit. All of them can be dressed up or down depending on how you want to style it. You do not have to spend a ton of money to try any of these trends. Most of the stores or online retailers you currently shop at probably carry all or some. My OTK boots were purchased from Target.com last winter. Slip into something new and bold this holiday season. Cheers Mama!
