NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in July 2019

July 3 :: Bring the family to City Park to enjoy patriotic music from The Marine Corps Band New Orleans on the Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn and fireworks from the top of the Peristyle.

July 3 :: Join us on Wednesday July 3, 2019 for the ‘SPARKS IN THE PARK‘ event. This event is set to start at 6:30pm and ends at 9:00pm. Dine and Shop around Covington before the fireworks show in the Bogue Falaya Park!!!!

July 3 :: Uncle Sam Jam is an annual celebration of our Nation’s Independence Day hosted by the Patrons of Lafreniere Park. It’s a 1-day event that takes place in the Al Copeland Concert & Meadow Stage of Lafreniere Park that includes 4 bands, over 20 food & beverage vendors, arts & crafts vendors, and of course the main event being the most spectacular fireworks show in town!

July 4 :: The holiday’s biggest celebration is on the banks of the Mississippi at the annual Go Fourth on the River extravaganza. “Dueling Barges” put on an exciting fireworks show to the tune of patriotic music. There are a lot of different locations to catch the excitement along the river, from Woldenberg Park to Crescent Park or across the river on the West Bank.

July 6 :: Join us for a very special Dolly & Me Tea Party at La Petite Tea Room! All ages welcome! Cost is $20 per child. Bring along your favorite doll or stuffed animal and join us in making tutus fitted just for your special friend! This party will also include dress-up and a tea party! Call (504) 338-8490 to reserve your seats!

July 6 :: Spark a curiosity for nature in your kids as they play, learn, and grow in the Discovery Garden at Longue Vue. With activities like seed planting, arts & crafts, microscope observation, and storytime, Sprouts is for kids of all ages to explore the wonderful world of the garden at their own pace. With seasonal themes and changing activities, there are always new things to discover at Sprouts. Kids of all ages welcome, though ideal for ages 18 months – 10 years. Be sure to check Facebook for updates and to learn about special themes.

July 9 :: Cow Appreciation Day is the one day of the year when it’s okay to dress udderly crazy in exchange for free food. Here’s how it works: Make or buy your cow costume. Wear your cow costume to Chick-fil-A South Clearview between 6:00am-7:00pm. Receive a free entree!

July 9 :: Come beat the heat and play in the cool. Gym Rompers is hosting an indoor open play in Metairie. July 9th, 9:30am-11:00am. Open to children 5 and under and their caregivers. $20 cash or check only.

July 11 :: Come to Bon Temps Boutique for a Glitter Gel Making Party and make two pots of glitter gel. Cosmetic grade glitter plus aloe vera based gel. Make your own color combos for hair and cheeks. All supplies and instructions provided. Ages 6 and up please.

July 11-21 :: See Mama Mia! at the Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts! The story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, creating an unforgettable show. A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget!

July 12-14 :: The New Orleans Summer Bead & Jewelry Show is open to the public featuring beads, fashion jewelry, findings, charms, pearls, beading classes, and more.

July 13 :: Bring the kids to All Barn New to make a Letter Door Hanger, personalized with their name!! These are adorable to hang in their bedroom! All Supplies are included in the price. Customize the paint colors at the workshop. We have over 50 to choose from. Register by following the link in posted in the comments or by clicking on the “Find Tickets” tab on the event page.

July 13 :: Spend an afternoon at Mix it Up Creative Studio painting with your children during Family Day! All ages are welcome! (No drop-offs please). We will have the main outline of the painting sketched out onto each 12 x16″ or a “16  20″canvas depending on the painting selected, and our professional art instructors will guide everyone step-by-step to complete the masterpiece! Reservations are required so we can have your canvas ready for you. Doors open at 2:00. Customers arriving after 2:45pm will not be allowed to join the class. Bring a drink and a snack or $2! We are located in the Winn Dixie shopping center between Jasmine Rice and Yoga Krewe!

July 13 :: Julie Verlinden is organizing a fun workshop on better smartphone photography. Learn how to capture great memories every day. Register now.

July 13 :: Looking to beat the heat this summer? We’ve got just what you need! On Saturday, July 13th, from 9:30am-10:30am join us for a fun Snoball Kids Yoga Flow at Free To Be Power Yoga Old Metairie. In this class, we will move through some of New Orleans most famous snowball stands while working on breath work, balance, yoga games and MORE. Children ages 4 – 12 only. Parents are free to practice in the 9:30am class next door or wait in the lobby on the first floor! Sign up soon! Spots are limited to 10 children.

July 16 :: Come and beat the heat at Gym Rompers! We are hosting a free play on Tuesday, July 16th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Open to children 5 and under. $20 a child/ cash or check only.

July 19 :: Pure Barre is hosting a free community class at Canal Place New Orleans every Tuesday in July starting July 9th. Class begins at 6:00pm.

July 19 :: Looking for a special way to surprise your little fan with their tickets to the D.R.E.A.M Tour?? What better way than to have our JJ Sequins deliver them in person?!? She will be available to come to YOUR HOUSE (or place of your choice) on 2 different days! The dates will be the evenings of July 19th and 26th! So don’t miss your chance to surprise your Sequinator with your tickets and a picture with JJ! July 20 :: Join us at La Petite Tea Room for a Summer Time Spa Party, featuring organic facials, a DIY lipgloss, a nail polish station and a tea party! The cost is $25 per child. To reserve your seats, call (504) 338-8490.

July 20 :: Join us for a free hoop dance class for kids age 7+ Saturday, July 20th at 9:30am at Body Expressions (619 Lafitte St., Mandeville LA 70448) Hula hoops are provided.

July 25-28 :: Catch Seussical Jr. at the Rivertown Theaters for Performing Arts! Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage!

July 26 :: Close out your summer family fun with an unforgettable evening at The National WWII Museum on Friday, July 26 from 5:30-9:00pm! Families of all sizes are invited to enjoy the first annual Family Block Party with exclusive, after hours access to the Museum exhibits and special experiences for all ages. Along with local community partners, The National WWII Museum will provide resources and activities featuring an array of topics like history, art, food and more. July 26-28 :: Don’t miss the Jefferson Performing Arts Society Theatre Kids My Fair Lady: School Edition! Eliza Doolittle is a young flower seller with an unmistakable Cockney accent which keeps her in the lower rungs of Edwardian society. When Professor Henry Higgins tries to teach her how to speak like a proper lady, an unlikely friendship begins to flourish. Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion.

July 27 :: Come play with the Louisiana Children’s Museum at Closing the Big Blue Doors, July 27, 9:00am-2:00pm. Receive a temporary tattoo and logo sticker, decorate a second line hanky, and sign your name on a Big Blue Door! Countdown to Closing at 1:45pm with balloons and confetti! Tickets $2.50, members (1986 Opening Day admission) and $10, non-members.

July 27 :: The annual NOLA Back 2 School Fest presented by Shell will provide 5,000 students in grades K-6 with free backpacks filled with essential school supplies to give students the basic tools they need to start the school year. The NOLA Back 2 School Fest will be held at the Xavier University Convocation Center, 7910 Stroelitz St, New Orleans, LA 70125. Advance registration is required as supplies are limited at www.nolabacktoschoolfest.org. In addition to backpacks and school supplies, students can receive a free haircut, participate in vision and dental checks and other important health screenings. Fest-goers can also connect with supportive services, enjoy entertainment, and participate in hands-on STEM stations to create excitement and build confidence for the start of the new school year.

Mondays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Audubon Park every Monday. Your first class is free!

Tuesdays :: Ensure that your little turtle’s etiquette is in tip-top shape! Join us at Brennan’s for Children’s Summer Manners Classes from 9:00-11:00am. Meet & Greet Brennan’s 10 Famous Turtles; Interactive, Hands-On Table Setting; Top 10 Table Manners by Brennan’s Expert; 3-Course Seated Breakfast. Kids $25, Adults $45. *for Children Ages 5-8.

Tuesdays :: Join us at the East Bank Regional Library for Read & Sing Story Time! It  includes stories, songs, and finger plays for infants and toddlers.

Wednesdays :: “Wiggles & Giggles” Storytime with Craft at the North Kenner Library includes stories and activities for children ages 2-5 years old.

Wednesdays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Audubon Park every Wednesday.

Thursdays :: Read and Sing Story Time at the River Ridge Library includes stories, songs, and finger plays for infants and toddlers up to 2 years old.

Fridays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Lawrence Square every Friday. Your first class is free!

Fridays & Saturdays :: Join us at the Prytania Theatre for a special Kid’s Summer Movie Series packed with movies for kid’s of all ages! All movies are Fridays & Saturdays at 10:00am & $6.50 tickets include a kiddie popcorn & drink.

Saturdays :: Don’t miss Free Summer Saturdays at JuJu’s Kids Boutique! June features national donut day, spa day, crafts for dad, fun with emojis and story time and cookies!
