June is here with all its summer fun! Check out our monthly guide for all of our favorite family friendly activities taking place in and around New Orleans this month!

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in June 2019

June 1 :: Spark a curiosity for nature in your kids as they play, learn, and grow in the Discovery Garden at Longue Vue. With activities like seed planting, arts & crafts, microscope observation, and storytime, Sprouts is for kids of all ages to explore the wonderful world of the garden at their own pace. With seasonal themes and changing activities, there are always new things to discover at Sprouts. Kids of all ages welcome, though ideal for ages 18 months – 10 years. Be sure to check Facebook for updates and to learn about special themes. First and last Saturday of each month January-October; 9:30-10:30am. Free for LV Family Members, $5 per person for non-members. Rain or shine. This week’s theme: Summer Sun!

June 1 :: Kick-off concert for Summer Reading Program at the Eastbank Regional Library during Concert Librarypalooza!

June 1 :: Visit the New Canal Lighthouse for Stories on the Lake, featuring readings, animal guests and crafts!

June 1 :: Join us at Westbank Regional Library for our special Star Wars themed Summer Reading Kick-Off Party: Library Palooza! We will have sensory activities for littles aged 0-4 in our Little Palooza area and a Jedi Academy with fun games for older kids. Star Wars or space themed costumes are encouraged, but not required!

June 1 :: Play, learn, and grow in the Discovery Garden as we plant seeds, read stories, and make crafts to celebrate “Rainbow Day!”. Wear your most colorful clothes as we celebrate diversity and New Orleans Pride Week! 9:30-10:30am, free for Longue Vue members, $5 per person for non-members.

June 1-2 :: The New Orleans Oyster Festival will educate the country about the benefits of the Louisiana Gulf Oyster, honor and celebrate the restauranteurs and oyster farmers who have solidified the New Orleans French Quarter’s position as the “Oyster Capital of America,” and help raise funds for “Coastal Restoration.”

June 4 :: Join us at Learning Express Toys in Metairie for a Fish Craft! This is a free event and recommended for children ages 1.5 to 5. No registration required.

June 6 :: Join Home Malone to paint our hottest design: The Crawfish! We will lead you step by step to make this crawfish a one of a kind piece. This design is ready to paint on a PVC weatherproof board. Suitable for indoors, outdoors and especially perfect for a door hanger! Measuring 9.55″ wide x 16″ tall, you’ll be sure to have a statement piece in your living room or a colorful door display seen from the street. This event will be held at Home Malone’s uptown location: 4610 Magazine Street. Light snacks and refreshments will be served. BYOB and snacks are welcome. Doors open at 6pm – painting will begin at 6:15p. All materials needed to paint (brushes, aprons, paints, magnolia cut-out) will be supplied. *Tickets are $45/ea and are non-refundable but ticket can be transferred another attendee for this specific event if you’re not able to make it.*

June 6 :: Eat Fit Dine Out is happening all day at participating restaurants. Participating restaurants will donate a portion of the day’s proceeds to the Eat Fit | Live Fit fund, which supports a variety of initiatives to encourage balanced, healthful lifestyles. key projects include collaboration with local restaurants to provide healthful options on menus, community nutrition workshops, cooking demos, wellness screenings, high school culinary teaching programs, and more.

June 7 :: The June Under the Moon party at New Orleans City Park will be a blast! Tell all your friends to meet you at Carousel Gardens for all the rides you can handle for one low price! You must be 21 years old or older to attend this event. No exceptions will be made.

June 8 :: Learning Express Toys in Metairie is hosting a Build A Sailboat Craft. Get ready to set sail and build your own boat! This is a free event and recommended for children ages 4+. No reservations required.

June 8 :: We are elated to invite y’all to join us in celebrating the official release of The Incwedible Quiet, the debut chapter book for young readers written and illustrated by our very own innkeepers! The event will take place on Saturday, June 8th, from 4:00-10:00pm. There will be dramatic readings of passages from the book, as well as live music provided by The Juice Box All Stars and Cactus Jackson and the Prickly Pears. Snacks and refreshments for all ages will also be available. And the tunnels will of course be open from the hours of 4:00-6:00pm. $15 will get you a signed copy of the book AND entry ($5 for admission only).

June 8 :: Bring the kids to Mommy & Me – Father’s Day Workshop at All Barn New in Metairie!! You must register for this event by clicking the find tickets tab on the event page .

June 8 :: The 17th Annual Jeff Fish Fest & Rodeo and 4th Annual Take a Kid Fishing Day are both happening on the same day at Lafreniere Park! Entry into Jeff Fish Fest provides access to the Swamp Zone which has interactive games, arts & crafts, Back Yard Bass, Inflatable Jump Zone, boat displays, great food and more.  Entry into Take A Kid Fishing Day provides access to the Swamp Zone which has interactive games, arts & crafts, Back Yard Bass, Inflatable Jump Zone, boat displays, great food and more.

June 8 :: The ocean needs our help! That’s why we’re hosting a day for you to learn more about how to protect our oceans for future generations in celebration of World Oceans Day at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. It’s a great opportunity to connect with nature, our communities and one another. Even better, it can be a whole lot of fun. Join us at Party for the Planet presented by Entergy: World Oceans Day for a local celebration of this global cause. Bring your whole family to marvel at marine life and learn how humans impact our oceans, while also enjoying interactive activities with the Audubon Educators.

June 8-9 :: The 33rd annual French Market Creole Tomato Festival in the French Market District, will host two days of live music on two stages, cooking demonstrations, food booths featuring treasured and unique Creole Tomato dishes, kid’s activities, and the 4th annual Bloody Mary Market in Dutch Alley.

June 9 :: Celebrate diversity and inclusion at Longue Vue House and Gardens during Pride Week 2019, during a family-centered event on the Longue Vue grounds. Family activities, a resource tent, and entertainment for all! Free, 10:00am-1:00pm.

June 13 :: Join us at Learning Express Toys in Metairie for a Butterfly Craft! This is a free event and recommended for children ages 1.5 to 5. No reservations needed.

June 15 :: When You Wish Entertainment is teaming up with Palm Tree Playground to present an action packed super hero event with your favorite super heroes! The event will include meet and greets, super hero training, hero activities, playtime, and food/drinks!

June 15 :: Learning Express Toys in Metairie is hosting a Father’s Day Card Craft. Tell Dad how much you care about him by crafting a fun card! This is a free event and recommended for ages 2+. No reservations necessary.

June 16 :: Zea Rotisserie & Bar is celebrating dads with Abita beer! This year, every dad who visits the restaurant on Father’s Day will be gifted a four-pack complete with three Abita beers and one root beer while supplies last. Families who dine-in will also receive a complimentary family photo. Reservations for Father’s Day meals are available at all Zea locations. Reservations for our Baton Rouge Zea are available online through the Zea website. Reservations for all other locations can be made over the phone and in-store.

June 18 :: Join us at Learning Express Toys in Metairie to craft a pink flamingo! This is a free event and recommended for children ages 2+. No reservations needed.

June 20-23 :: Festigals is an annual festival that empowers, celebrates, and supports women of all backgrounds and champions causes related to women’s well-being. The festival features a variety of New Orleans-themed activities, designed for women and by women. The festival usually includes renowned female speakers, local female entrepreneurs’ seminars, and more. Festigals is the perfect girls’ weekend getaway or solo New Orleans adventure throughout the French Quarter and beyond! Stay tuned to our website for more information on tickets and pricing!

June 21 :: On June 21, visit the LEGO store to participate in a spring DUPLO build event. This building event has limited space and registration is required. Sign ups begin June 14 in stores only. This activity is intended for ages 3 – 5 only.

June 21-23 :: Don’t miss the Jefferson Performing Arts Society’s presentation of The Little Mermaid JR.! Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the Disney Motion Picture, Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.

June 22 :: Learning Express Toys in Metairie is hosting an LOL Trading Event at 4:00pm. Meet other LOL Dolls collectors and trade your duplicates or trade for a coveted LOL Doll! Ages 5+. Free event. No reservations necessary.

June 22-23 :: The 3rd Annual NOLA Caribbean Fest is back with a bang! 2 days, 3 stages, 50+ vendors, multiple international artists, bands & DJs. Delicious Caribbean food and drinks. Family friendly festival with kids zone containing inflatables, drum tent, arts & crafts tent, face painting and baby friendly area.

June 22-23 :: The Cajun Zydeco Festival contains the greatest collection of Cajun and zydeco artists for any festival in the city and perhaps the state! Once again, we’ll present a stellar lineup that includes many of Louisiana’s most beloved Cajun and zydeco performers. As always, we’ll have great seafood, a large arts market, activities for kids and lots of misting fans to keep everyone cool.

June 24 :: Join us for our Cool event at Chronos to have your free Coolsculpting consultation plus enjoy discounts for that day only! Space is limited so RSVP today!

June 27 :: Learning Express Toys in Metairie is hosting an Ice Cream Craft! This is a free event and recommended for children ages 1.5 to 5. No reservations needed.

June 29 :: Join the fun at Learning Express Toys in Metairie and make a beaded dragonfly. This is a free event and recommended for children ages 4+. No reservations needed.

June 30 :: Visit Empty Nest Cafe and Bar for a fun Kids Summer Event! We will make our own personal pizza and a special Fourth of July craft, $10.00 per child. Reservation only 455-7040.

Recurring Events

Mondays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Audubon Park every Monday. Your first class is free!

Tuesdays :: Ensure that your little turtle’s etiquette is in tip-top shape! Join us at Brennan’s for Children’s Summer Manners Classes from 9:00-11:00am. Meet & Greet Brennan’s 10 Famous Turtles; Interactive, Hands-On Table Setting; Top 10 Table Manners by Brennan’s Expert; 3-Course Seated Breakfast. Kids $25, Adults $45. *for Children Ages 5-8.

Tuesdays :: Join us at the East Bank Regional Library for Read & Sing Story Time! It  includes stories, songs, and finger plays for infants and toddlers.

Wednesdays :: “Wiggles & Giggles” Storytime with Craft at the North Kenner Library includes stories and activities for children ages 2-5 years old.

Wednesdays :: Wednesday at the Square is a FREE family friendly concert series that takes place in Lafayette Square (S Maestri Pl, New Orleans, LA 70130).

Thursdays :: Read and Sing Story Time at the River Ridge Library includes stories, songs, and finger plays for infants and toddlers up to 2 years old.

Thursdays :: Be a part of the Bilingual Birdies pilot class at Kindermusik with Madeline! Learn Spanish with your child (ages 0-5) through music, movement, and puppetry. Ages 0-3: Thursdays at 3:30pm, Ages 3-5: Thursdays at 4:30pm.

Fridays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Lawrence Square every Friday. Your first class is free!

Fridays & Saturdays :: Join us at the Prytania Theatre for a special Kid’s Summer Movie Series packed with movies for kid’s of all ages! All movies are Fridays & Saturdays at 10:00am & $6.50 tickets include a kiddie popcorn & drink.

Saturdays :: Don’t miss Free Summer Saturdays at JuJu’s Kids Boutique! June features national donut day, spa day, crafts for dad, fun with emojis and story time and cookies!
