How Hello Fresh Got Me Out of My Cooking Rut & Gave Me More Confidence in the Kitchen

Author’s Note :: this post is NOT sponsored; I personally purchased meals from Hello Fresh before writing this post.

If you’re like me, you’ve been seeing ads and coupon codes for Hello Fresh and other home delivery meal kits for MONTHS. I’ve been considering giving it a try for a while, and lately I have just been feeling BLAH about cooking dinner. I can Pinterest meals for days y’all, but when it comes to actually preparing and cooking them, most of the time you can forget about it.

I guess you could say I’ve been somewhat in a cooking rut lately …

I saw a coupon code for $60 off your first 3 weeks of meals (3 meals a week) and it had my attention. I asked my husband what he thought, and he said GO FOR IT.

When you sign up for Hello Fresh you have to commit and pay before you get to see your meal options, which I was not a fan of. But I thought hey, at the very least I can do the 3 weeks we have the coupon for then cancel once it goes back up to full price. I am SO happy we decided to go for it, because two meals in to our first week and we are loving it!

After you sign up, the website brings you to a list of meals that are available for the week you choose to have your first delivery. I was extremely impressed with the options they give you! They have a picture of every meal, which I loved because I am a visual person when it comes to food.

For our first week of meals, we chose ginger soy chicken, cherry balsamic pork chops, and chicken cheddar fajitas. So far, I’ve made the ginger soy chicken and my husband cooked the cherry balsamic pork chops. Two of arguably the best meals we’ve made. Definitely one of the top 3 meals I have ever made (my husband is a much better cook than I am),

One thing I loved about our first week of Hello Fresh is the user friendly packaging and instructions it comes with. Each meal comes in a separate paper bag and is marked as to which meal is which. They also provide step by step instructions, pictures included, along with a recipe for each of the meals you order.

Another great thing about Hello Fresh is that yes, it’s basically a subscription, but you can pick and choose the weeks you want meals delivered. You are able to skip weeks and not have to pay for those weeks. A HUGE plus as a family of 4 whose life can be very busy. Some weeks we can’t commit to cooking 3 big meals a week. NO PROBLEM! Skip that week.

I don’t know why we didn’t try out Hello Fresh earlier, but I am so happy we finally did! I seriously felt like a contestant on Chopped, in a good way, and I was so proud of myself for following the instructions and cooking us a delicious meal! I even minced some ginger. Y’all, a big step for this girl! I see many more weeks of Hello Fresh in our future.

Have you tried Hello Fresh (or another meal subscription service)? If so, which meals have been your favorite? I’m looking forward to ordering our next week of meals and getting my butt back in the kitchen.
