One Mom’s Take on Target and Walmart Grocery Pickup

Grocery pickup is the hot new thing, and as a mom of three, soon to be four, it is something that I can definitely support wholeheartedly. I live on the Westbank of New Orleans, so it may be a little different depending on where you live, but this post is based on my opinions and experiences.

Walmart Grocery Pickup

In our area, Walmart was the first one to come out with grocery pickup. I was EXCITED y’all. Nothing delivers to us because we live so far out, so this was a game changer! I immediately tried it. In case you aren’t familiar with Walmart pickup, you go onto their website and choose a pickup location and time. Then, you add whichever items you need at the time to your car and checkout. You pay when you order, then show up for your chosen time slot (which is in one hour increments). The downfall to this is that I have to be extra prepared when going this route. I usually have to place my order 24 hours in advance because there are no time slots available for same day pickup. Lately, I have been getting lucky and there is an open spot on the same day, but it’s been a random occurrence.

Target Grocery Pickup

A couple of weeks ago, our household was hit with the stomach bug. Wouldn’t you know that, of course, this was the time we ran out of diapers, wipes, and toilet paper? We also needed to replenish our sick stock of probiotics, Gatorade, and soup. This was a problem because we needed them all that day, which was a Saturday, and Walmart had no pickup slots available. I also didn’t want to take sick kids into a store and get all the things we needed. Target pickup to the rescue!!

I ordered what I needed, and the site says that your order will be ready for pickup within two hours of ordering. Then I had to just wait for the confirmation that it was ready. Well, twenty-four minutes later — I kid you not, twenty-four minutes! — and our order was ready for pickup. Ummmm. I can’t even drive to my nearest Target in twenty-four minutes, so I was super impressed. The one downfall of Target pickup, in my opinion, is that you cannot order perishables to pickup. So when it comes to a full grocery shopping, that would be a problem. Now, don’t get too concerned because I didn’t read this anywhere, and I just connected the dots based on what was available as I was placing my order. Your Target may actually offer perishables as part of the service, so double check because that would be amazing!!

Moral of the story is that grocery pickup is genius, and if you aren’t using it, you should be.

It saves you time, sanity, money (looking at you, impulse buys) and the headache of grocery shopping with kids!

Did I miss anything regarding pickup?
