Forget the Reservations- Let’s Stay Home: Valentine’s Day Dinner Plans

In the fifteen years my husband and I have been together, we have spent Valentine’s Day in every way you can think of- from the classic candle lit dinner in a high dollar restaurant to the ultra-romantic sharing hot wings on the couch.

But I must say, my very favorite way to spend Valentine’s Day has been this little tradition we’ve started in the last few years: after we tuck our five kids in for the night, we pour ourselves some wine, fire up the grill and throw on a few steaks, turn on some music, and end up dancing barefoot under the moon.

The truth is, we figured out several years ago that going out to eat on Valentine’s Day is just not for us. Fighting traffic, making reservations in a crowded restaurant, spending upwards of $150 for our meals, and then paying a sitter on top of it all? No thanks.

This year we are planning to kick our V-Day dinner up a notch. Winn-Dixie read our minds with their Valentine’s Day Surf and Turf Special for $50.00 (a dozen roses included!), and I am here for it!

A U.S.D.A bone in T-bone value pack (only $5.88 with card!) and a 3 ounce wild caught cold water lobster tail ($5.88 with card!!) with a side of asparagus- we love ours grilled with sea salt, cracked black pepper and parmesan cheese- only $1.99 with card. There are also several deals on fine wine and champagne! Yes please!

And dessert also taken care of- grab a half a dozen chocolate covered strawberries ($6.99 with card) and if you are lucky enough to be in New Orleans, you may even be able to snag some of their Mardi Gras strawberries!

They have so many fabulous deals to take advantage of- you can get 6x the points when you purchase a gift card, sales on plush stuffed animals and Valentine’s Day cards and don’t forget to stop by the bakery for some yummy treats for your little one’s classmates!

I am so lucky to have a Winn-Dixie right down the road, so I can run and grab some last-minute goodies- I love to see them set up in the store hand dipping their chocolate covered strawberries! I am so looking forward to a relaxing night at home for V- Day!

They live on the Northshore with their 5 daughters, 1 son, and 2 dogs, who keep their lives exciting and exhausting, and their house messy. After being relocated to the Midwest for several years due to her husband’s job, she and her family realized they missed Louisiana and its glorious heat and humidity more than they could handle and moved back home, this time for good. She loves trying new local restaurants, the four minutes a week her house is actually clean, and watching whichever activity her girls are involved in at the moment. You can usually find her dancing to classic country in her kitchen with a glass of wine, while attempting to come up with something to make for dinner.
