family friendly happy hours in New Orleans

A question that comes up a lot in some of our circles is “Where can a mom grab a drink with kids in tow?” Now I know what you are thinking, “Why would you drink around your children?” “That is very irresponsible!” Let me tell you, sometimes, momma needs a drink, and when that happens, it is RARE she is able to find someone to watch the children. So, here are some local places where you can take the kids and enjoy a nice cool beverage to save your sanity from those said children and this ungodly heat.

1.  The Courtyard Brewery (New Orleans)

Located in the lovely Lower Garden District, The Courtyard Brewery offers in-house experimental brews and a generous selection of craft beer from around the world. They offer a nice outdoor seating area with room for the littles to play.

2.  The Company Burger (New Orleans)

This little joint on Freret, The Company Burger, has a great patio, and a menu with comfort food and drinks. Kids will love the open space and a menu of burgers, grilled cheese, and milkshakes. Cobu Frose, fagetaboutit!

3.  Old Point Bar (New Orleans)

Outside tables across from the levee of the Mississippi River – what more can you ask for on a breezy early evening. Grab a drink at Old Point, hang out with friends while the kids play and then take a walk up the levee for one of the finest views of Downtown New Orleans.

4.  Beach House (Mandeville)

Beach House is Old Mandeville’s little slice of beachy heaven. Grab a tropical cocktail along with some delicious food while the kids play in the sand. They even have live music, check their website for days and times.

5.  Old Rail Brewing Company (Mandeville)

Found on the Northshore, Old Rail has an awesome food menu. The place is absolutely stunning. Pop in for in-house brews and mixed drinks. For the non-beer lover, cough cough me, I love that they also have cocktails.

6. The Anchor (Madisonville)

The Anchor has one of the best outdoor seating areas I have seen in a long time. The food and drinks are chef’s kiss and has become a very popular Northshore staple.

7.  The Backyard (Lakeview)

Have you seen this backyard?! The only trouble you may have with Lakeview’s The Backyard is making your kids want to leave.

8.  The Velvet Cactus (Lakeview)

Give me all the queso and chips my heart desires. This little slice of heaven is perfect for family dining with margaritas, and no one can be miserable if margaritas are involved. The Velvet Cactus is one of my favorite spots for girl time.

9.  The Blue Crab (Lakeview)

Right on the water of beautiful Lake Pontchartrain, The Blue Crab offers indoor and outdoor dining, live music, and lots of room for friends and family to enjoy. Get the Blue Crab Dip appetizer, you are welcome.

10. The Blind Tiger (Slidell)

The Blind Tiger is probably the most hidden gem of them all. There are tons of areas for the kids to play, the drinks are awesome, and the food, live music, need I say more.

*As always, if you choose to drink adult beverages, be sure to drink responsibly.
