We are zoo people. We love to go to the Audubon Zoo, especially when the weather is that cool breezy perfect that you get in NOLA about two weeks a year.
We are members so we can go as often as we like and can come and go as we please. Some trips are 1 hour and others are all day. My parents give Baby Crawfish a membership for Christmas each year, which is an awesome gift that keeps on giving all year long.
They have lots of events; some are members only and some are open to the public. I like that it is a range from Halloween Boo-At-The-Zoo to Kids’ Zoo-To-Do. One of the newest programs that Audubon is getting ready to kick off is called Stroller Safari.
The program is designed for children 18-36 months. Since there are not many activities designed for kids that young this is super exciting!
Stroller Safari invites children and one adult to have a great adventure with nature. The classes take place before the zoo opens, mostly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Stroller Safari introduces “campers” to nature concepts and offers outdoor exercise and introductions to some of the favorite animal exhibits. During each class the children will be introduced to an animal topic with stores, a nature craft, and a visit to the animal exhibit.
The sessions are themed for particular animals, so take note of that when you are registering so you know what animal you will be spending time with.
Cost: $10 members; $20 non-members (per class)
Registration is open now. You can sign up by class or by month.
