2018/2019 Guide to New Orleans Schools, Admissions Open Houses and After School Activities
Whether you choose private, public, religious or otherwise – choosing a school is a huge challenge. The challenges are multiplied as we live in a city that has such a variety of educational choices and issues. We invite you to peruse our listing for a school that meets your family’s needs and priorities and to visit them at the Open Houses listed below. If you have questions about specific schools we also encourage you to ask the moms in our neighborhood groups about their thoughts and experiences. Who better to ask about local schools than actual moms who have experienced the schools themselves?
Do you have a little one that is not quite ready for school? You can check out a comprehensive list of childcare, preschools and mother’s day out programs HERE.

Since Little Gate’s inception, McGehee has been committed to finding the best methods for preschoolers to learn. For 28 years now, we remain resolved in our commitment to our youngest students. Walk into a classroom and you will see a two- or three-year old learning about chain reactions, simple machinery, circuitry deconstruction and problem solving. Even at this very young age they are thinking outside the box as they play and (without knowing it) acquiring 21st Century critical skills. It was over a decade ago when Little Gate first integrated the Reggio Emilia approach into the curriculum. For years now, our youngest students have been the protagonists, collaborators and communicators who help drive the curriculum. The environment on our campus serves as the third teacher and our classrooms and spaces are designed to encourage interest and encounters. Our state of the art facilities were renovated specifically with our one- to four-year old students in mind. In addition to our butterfly garden, our Little Gaters love and treasure their vegetable gardens which they tend to with loving care. The Tinker Lab is another popular classroom where the twos and threes spend time deconstructing, tinkering and exploring all of the options available to them. These enrichment programs are a valued and integral part of the Little Gate curriculum.
