The French Market District Celebrates the 31st Annual Creole Tomato Festival

The French Market District celebrates the 31st annual Creole Tomato Festival Saturday, June 10th and Sunday, June 11th!

While late spring often ushers in higher temperatures and occasional wet days, the Creole Tomato Festival offers outdoor fun for the whole family before the dog days of summer with two live music stages, food booths, Creole tomato eating contests for adults and kids, and our Creole Tomato Festival Kid’s Zone on the Barracks Street side of the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint!

There are ample cooling off spots: indoors at one of many French Market District kid-friendly retail shops or restaurants, underneath the shaded flea and farmers market, and along the Mississippi River where you can catch a refreshing breeze in June. You can always take a break from the dancing and activities at one or more of these easily accessible spots, so pace yourself, carry plenty of water, and you’ll be able to wander the four blocks of festival and enjoy fresh food, live music, and lots of kid’s activities!

At the Creole Tomato Festival Kid’s Zone, on the Barracks Street side of the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint (open all weekend with restrooms indoors), kids can make tomato themed crafts, such as secondline hankies, and more, in between enjoying a pop up playground created by PlayBuild NOLA, plus face-painters and balloon artists.

This area is conveniently located near the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint Stage that will play host to local and regional music programmed in part by the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, and will be near the festival food booths on Barracks—and, just across the street at Crescent Park, families can enjoy reprieve from the festivities with covered space and specular river and city views.

  1. I saw festival posted last year and suggested my granddaughter’s family attend. Didn’t go then but will certainly go this year.

My great-grand son loves tomatoes– would rather have them than M&M’s— so I’m hoping there will be plenty of recipes and hopefully they can get some growing advise so Jude can pick them as he plays.

Is it cheating to use the calculator for the digits answer? Sure have gotten brain lazy with all the electronic devises at hand.
