NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in April 2017


Spring has officially sprung! The days are warmer, longer and fun-filled! There is no shortage of family-friendly and date night ideas for you new orleans events aprilthis month!! And since we’re suckers for good deals and so many stores are offering spring sales, we’ve included those for you as well!!

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. Rather, we’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. Living in New Orleans can be overwhelming, but our hope is that consolidating events into a resource such as this will make your job as entertainment director a tad easier! March 31-April 1 :: Head to the UNO Lakefront Arena for Hogs for the Cause, a non-profit fundraising barbecue competition and music festival that raises money for families with children fighting pediatric brain cancer.

April 1 :: It’s the Freret Street Festival!! Enjoy great food and music, score some awesome crafts and other items, all while supporting local businesses!!

April 1 ::  Movies on the Point at Holy Name of Mary Church will feature Moana at 7:30pm

April 2 :: Celebrating 70 years, Metairie Small Animal Hospital is planning a fun-filled afternoon for everyone – adults, kids and pets!

April 2 :: Join the Jewish Community Day School for their second annual Chocolate Passover Seder!

April 2 :: Visit Sugar Roots Farm for Baby Animal Day, a fundraiser for a new farm tractor. Enjoy pony rides, face painting, and photo ops with baby farm animals!

April 5-7 :: St. Martin’s Episcopal School‘s performing arts department presents “Oliver!” in the school’s Solomon Theater.

April 6-9 :: It’s festival time!! French Quarter Festival, that is! Head downtown for music, food and FUN!! See the full lineup here.

April 7 :: Archbishop Chapelle is holding its popular Chips N’ Canvas event for 4th & 5th grade girls and their 6th Grade Social – just for 6th grade girls!

April 7-9 :: Holy Name of Jesus School presents Beauty and the Beast Jr. Tickets are $10 for reserved seating and $5 for general admission and may be purchased at the door.

April 9 :: Transform NOLA hosts a spring workshop series for kids ages 4-9. Sunday, April 9 & May 7 from 9-11:30. Yoga, songs, meditation,mindful stories, a craft and a snack!

April 10 :: ZukaBaby’s New Parent Playdate is joined once a month by the professionals from the Fussy Baby Network to help guide parents through the major transitions of welcoming a new life. Parents and babies age 0-12 months.

April 15 :: It’s SuperSaurus Saturday at the Louisiana Children’s Museum! Learn about dinosaurs and geology with the New Orleans Geological Society. Explore a collection of fossils, see life-sized dinosaur skulls, walk in dinosaur footprints, and complete a dino scavenger hunt and receive a real dinosaur bone fragment to keep!

April 15 :: Calling all Jr. Rangers! Kick off National Park Week by earning a badge from Jean Lafitte! Explore activity stations, dress up for the Ranger Photo booth, and learn about YOUR national parks.

April 18 :: Craft Happy Hour at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Erin Wexstten of Oxalis Apothecary will be leading a “blending” workshop and participants will leave with their own customized roll-on perfume.

April 20 :: Join ZukaBaby and Nurse Nikki to learn basic skills to revive your child or infant and relieve them from choking. This is a non-certifying class. $20/person.

April 21 :: Join ZukaBaby and Nurse Nikki for an a non-biased, informative discussion on infant nutrition and to receive professional support. Suggested donation of $5-10.

April 22 :: The Lake PontchARTrain Craft Fair with  30+ vendors selling a wide variety of arts and crafts. This Earth Day celebration will also feature many educational activities for children of all ages. The New Canal Lighthouse Museum will also be open for tours.

April 22 :: Get in the groove for Sacred Heart’s Congé 2017.  Enjoy rides, music, games, crawfish, confetti eggs and more.

April 22 :: The New Orleans Mini Maker Faire: a family-friendly festival of innovation and creativity, and a celebration of the Maker Movement.

April 22-23 :: The New Orleans Air Show returns!!

April 25 :: Bring your blankets, chairs and picnic fare to Swing in the Oaks, a free annual concert presented by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and City Park.

April 26 :: Join Alton Brown Live at the Saenger Theater for “Eat Your Science.”

April 28 :: New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival begins!!

April 29 :: The East Jefferson YMCA is having a family fair at the facility! Families of all ages are welcome to participate in activities like swimming, face painting, climbing on the rock wall, bounce houses, a DJ, and dance performances!

April 30 :: Kids across New Orleans will have a night to call their own when Dan TDM, one of the world’s biggest YouTube creators, hosts a live show at the Saenger Theater.

New Orleans Moms Blog Neighborhood Group Activities

Have you joined one of our NOMB Neighborhood Groups yet? These groups are always gathering for a night out or playdates. Our Mombassadors are working on plenty of MNO’s and playdates all across the New Orleans area – please note that in order to view these activities, you’ll need to join the group for your area.
