Carousel Gardens in City Park Opens Again on March 8! {Sponsored Giveaway}

Disclosure: this is a sponsored post. That said, we are sure that all New Orleans area moms agree with us that City Park is one of the absolute treasures of our city. We are excited to promote the re-opening of Carousel Gardens with a fun giveaway just for you all!

Carousel Gardens Amusement Park and Storyland are a rite of passage for any New Orleans kid. I remember spending hours at both attractions (which, you should note, are separate areas within City Park) as a child. I thought I was a pretty brave girl because I wasn’t scared to ride the ladybug roller coaster at Carousel Gardens or stand on the whale’s tongue or go down the dragon slide in Storyland.

CityParkI also firmly believed that I was a Storyland celebrity. When I was little, my grandparents gave money to City Park to renovate Storyland in my name. Because of that donation, my name and about 5 others hung in the little red school house in Storyland from when I was a child through Hurricane Katrina. When I was a teenager and returned to Storyland as a camp counselor, I loved to show my campers that my name was a part of Storyland. They thought it was just as cool as I did.

When Katrina hit and City Park was devastated by the storm, I was worried that the attractions I remembered so fondly would not re-open. But with much blood, sweat and tears of the staff and volunteers, the park re-opened more beautiful than ever. As a city, we have such a stunning park with even more attractions today like Morning Call and City Putt. But even more importantly, the iconic City Park locations such as Storyland and Carousel Gardens Amusement Park are still available to enjoy. To be able to make those same memories with my child is so much fun, as she is also a Storyland girl and it allows my inner child to join her.

However, my name and the names of the others that hung so proudly in that little red school house for all those years did not make it and fell victim to Katrina. Even though they ain’t dere no more, my memories of Carousel Gardens are being relived through my daughter’s enjoyment of the park. And now all of you can make the same kind of memories at Carousel Gardens, too!

Temperatures are rising in NOLA, flowers are starting to bloom and memories are ready to be made. Make plans to take your child or your inner child to Carousel Gardens and enjoy our City Park.

  1. Our first visit to City Park was for Celebration in the Oaks this year. The carousel was shut down. 🙁 Cannot wait to go back when the weather is nice. We will definitely be going more this year.

  2. We visit the park at least once a month but one than that during the summer. We love just feeding the ducks. The City Putt is favorite with the kids.

  3. Oh man we love City Park. Storyland is fun and the toddler loves it. First time we went to the amusement park was at CITO and she was just tall enough to ride a couple rides. Oh boy is she looking forward to going back

  4. My kids and I normally go every Spring to the Carousel Gardens so the weather is not too hot and not too cold and everyone can enjoy themselves!

  5. We go a few times during the year. My daughter is almost 2 so we do a lot of Story land. We also always go to Celebration in the Oaks every year.

  6. My family and I live right by City Park and my kids always want to go there! It’s hard to pick out our favorite place to go – but my son enjoys the playground and Storyland!

  7. We visit at least once a month when it’s warm out! We love getting some beignets and coffee and just feeding the ducks and birds!

  8. We love going out to the park! We tried to make it out about twice a month normally… But recently we moved and the family misses it so much!! Putt putt, picnics, rides, and family pictures bunches of fun:-)

  9. We go to City Park a few times each month. In fact, we are going there later this week for a birthday party & beignets! 🙂

  10. We go a few times a month when the weather is nice. Can’t wait for the warmer weather so we can play outside again!
